Your bi-yearly tip on #anthurium care. If you want to extend the red colour - snip off the yellow spadix, once the flower(looks like a leaf) turns fully red. That extends the red for much longer.
This particular plant(we have several of these) was gifted to my Mom from a former Filipino coworker. Mom loves this particular anthurium because it's the biggest & healthiest out of all the ones we have. It's a good indoor air filtration plant.

Y'all, I just realized that my anthuriums with heart-shaped flowers have heart-shaped leaves, and anthuriums with "tulip-shaped" flowers have similarly-shaped leaves. Very big brain discoveries over here.
(I don't think this is true for all anthuriums, but I did just notice it with a few of my plants)

I did it: I bought my "most coveted fancy anthurium": a speckled pigtail anthurium from akatsuka orchids in Volcano, HI (http://akatsukaorchid.com/). They only have it very rarely, and I've only seen it for sale one time before. I've seen red pigtail anthuriums, but the speckled is so much cooler.

Moved 4 of my flamingo flower plants outdoors for Summer open air time.
#FlamingoFlower is good at absorbing airborne chemicals released by common cleaning products & general pollutants. It's particularly good at absorbing harmful chemicals like ammonia & formaldehyde from the air.
Be careful if you have cats who love houseplants because it's toxic to felines. Asher has no interest in any houseplants so we are quite lucky because most cats like to sniff/chew on houseplants. He avoids the houseplants & only likes his little cat grass pot. Don't keep these in your home if your cat is obsessed with plants.

Anthuriums (like certain orchids) have very active roots that can move quickly in response to environmental conditions.
For example, here are 2 anthuriums I got from the store last week. I immediately took them out of their pots and set them down in a shady, moist area.
It's only been a few days, but look how much the roots have already spread out from the tight ball of the pot they were in! I can almost feel them stretching out and saying "aaaahhhhh.."
Anthuriums love it in the loose leaf litter of the tropical wet forest floor in my area. These are "poor soils", but for anthuriums (and many orchids), this is where they thrive. Their roots need a lot of air and often you'll see them perched up above the forest floor, with roots reaching under the leaf litter. Their roots need a combo of all 3: air, water, cover (leaf litter).
Personally, I think it's fascinating to watch roots react to their environment - in some cases moving even faster than the upper part of the plant.
