  1. News Summary: Harlequin’s AI Microdrama Deal Sparks Backlash; Publishers Support Music Industry against Anthropic

The publishing industry has had a week of not seeming to be able to get its story straight on AI. I say story, but what I mean in the first instance is AI-generated animated microdramas. They are very much in demand with audiences and provide an opportunity for those writers who love producing serialized works with short episodes and cliffhangers aplenty.

  3. And you can't just assume that if one of the parties involved files, then everyone involved is taken care of. Milan wrote that she had to call up her translator to make sure she registered too, to get what was coming to her.

  8. @herhandsmyhands @bookstodon thanks for this. I’ve got a bunch of titles. I’ve joined the class.

  9. It turns out that this is a common oversight. Allegedly it doesn't affect the copyright status, since the words "copyright by" appears in the book itself, but as we've discovered here in the U.S. recently, a lot of settled law isn't settled anymore.

  10. Well *here's* a plot twist I'm disappointed to see happened.

  11. It's great to see that authors who started a class action lawsuit against Anthropic have won (the authors who are part of the suit will be extracting a juicy settlement from the bastards).

This gives me hope that other AI companies who are cheerfully violating copyright while hoovering up data that isn't theirs will be put on notice. They need to be punished, and I hope it hurts them in the financials going forward. :BlobCat_Love:
