I need to make a correction, the Sweet Grass pictured is European sweet grass, not heirochlo odorata which is a northern hemisphere global native. Both species are burnt for their sweet aroma. The Polish make beer from the latter.
Most people around here are very surprised to learn ceromonial "Sweet Grass" (anthoxanthum oderatum) grows, and is quite common , in far northern coastal ca. I was surprised when I Id'd it. It's native to North America but not California. We have a close relative called Vanilla Grass, (anthoxanthum occidentale) it likes growing in the woods.
The meadow at my office is mostly Sweet Grass. I give away braids to my old hippie friends.

It is a powerful plant to work with. The aroma is too strong to be indoors
