Die Blätter waren sich nicht ganz sicher, was sie dieses Jahr tun sollten, aber jetzt fangen sie endlich an, sich zu verfärben und zu fallen – obwohl das Wetter noch warm ist. Ich würde das Wetter als untypisch bezeichnen, aber „untypisch“ ist heutzutage ein ziemlich bedeutungsloser Begriff. Die Jahreszeiten bringen, was sie bringen, egal, was wir denken, dass sie bringen sollten.

Das beste Spiel der Welt ist, wenn du meinen Hund fragst, „Blätterkicken“. Das Spiel ist einfach: Ich kicke Blätter, und Rintrah springt in die Luft, um sie zu fangen. Jeden Morgen auf unserem Spaziergang bin ich vom Kicken erschöpft, bevor er vom Springen und Laufen erschöpft ist. Varianten des Spiels sind „Bachwasser-Kicken“ und „Schnee-Kicken“, die wahrscheinlich keiner weiteren Erklärung bedürfen.

Wenn die Tage kürzer werden, nehmen wir die Sonne nicht mehr so selbstverständlich hin. Da Blätter und Licht für dieses Jahr verblassen, ist es ganz natürlich, dass wir über den Tod um uns herum und den Tod, der uns erwartet, nachdenken – und es wird dich nicht überraschen, dass ich darin Trost und Schönheit finde. Es ist der Tod, der uns umgibt, der uns zum Leben führt.

Ich baue nicht viele Rituale direkt in mein Leben ein. Ich möchte gerne mehr mit Magie zu tun haben, als ich es derzeit tue. In den meisten Jahren bringe ich mich dazu, mit Freunden Kürbisse zu schnitzen. In den meisten Jahren schaffe ich es, ein paar schöne Wanderungen zu machen, während die Blätter noch in der Luft schweben. Ich nehme mir immer etwas Zeit, um mich hinzusetzen und die Blätter zu beobachten. Vor ein paar Jahren haben eine Freundin und ich ein „dumb supper” veranstaltet und beim Abendessen einen Teller für die Toten gedeckt und mit ihnen gesprochen, als wären sie im Raum.

An diesem Abend sprach ich hauptsächlich mit meiner Tante, der Katholikin, die lesbisch war und sich selbst gegenüber nicht offen dazu bekannte. Ich kann nicht behaupten, dass sie ein glückliches Leben geführt hat, und dafür mache ich meistens die Kirche verantwortlich, die ihr beigebracht hat, dass sie nicht sie selbst sein sollte. Als ich an diesem Abend mit ihr sprach, knüpfte ich an das Gespräch an, das wir an ihrem Sterbebett unterbrochen hatten, als sie mir endlich die Fragen stellte, die sie sich aus Angst nicht zu stellen getraut hatte, nämlich die zu meinem Geschlecht.

The anarchist bookfair is kicking off next week! 🏴 And while Firestorm isn't a primary venue this year, we are hosting a welcome table and the first session with local author Blu Buchanan!

Blu, who recently co-edited "Be Gay, Do Crime," an anthology from PM Press, will provide a short talk about the history of radical queer resistance and what it means for us in this particular historical moment. The presentation will be followed by a discussion of the communities boldly rising to challenge capitalism, white supremacy, and authoritarianism. This opening session will be followed by the bookfair's opening night potluck, so bring a dish if you're able (vegan and gluten-free preferred).

Additionally, don't miss PM Press's booth on Saturday alongside 30 other radical publishers and grassroots projects! Bookfair sessions, including numerous presentations related to mutual aid disaster relief and the anniversary of Hurricane Helene, will be running in other locations throughout the day and into Sunday.
