  1. Whenever I see an article about #soyMilk, #veganCheese, #veganSausages or "#vegan anything" I always see the usual brain dead comments from your average person, stating how soy milk isn't milk, or cheese only comes from cows, or sausages only have animal meat in it and nothing else. This ownership of the wording/definition is weird, and deflects from the far more important issue of the #AnimalRights of the animals, which, as any #AnnoyingVegan will tell you, have no rights if they are being exploited by humans without their consent.

Regardless, here is an example (comments on their Facebook post):

    abc.net.au/news/rural/2023-11-

This is ridiculous for at least 2 reasons:

    1. Words, their definitions and meaning change all the time. Examples here: washingtonpost.com/news/the-in and merriam-webster.com/wordplay/w

    2. As long as things are not misleading or 'illegal' (and they are not, at least in Australia: canberratimes.com.au/story/736) then there shouldn't be an objection to whatever a company decides to call its product.

Finally, I am going to use the #PeanutButter / #HotDog argument. If peanut butter or hot dogs can be called what they are (there is no cow butter in peanut butter and there is no dog meat (usually 🤢🤮) in hot dogs), then I don't see any problem with calling any vegan food item what it is trying to replicate or mimic as closely as possible. After all, the vegan food usually (if not always) has a different spelling, a prefix, or a sufix. Is it cheecky? Sure. But so is killing a cow for a couch.

  2. I am a day late in my timezone but Happy World Vegan Day everyone! ☺️❤️🌱🥳🪅🎊🎉

Celebrations involved buying a box of #vegan #krispykreme donuts! 😂 I got them from my local #7eleven.

I believe they were released in #Australia on World Vegan Day too!

I have forgotten what non vegan donuts taste like, but these were delicious! Highly recommended. Curious if people can taste the difference. ☺️

PS. I was going to just post this picture and be done with it, but I won't be an #AnnoyingVegan without giving a thousand words of backstory as to why these donuts actually make me a bit happier than just for the fact that they are vegan, donuts, and are edible (all things that excite me very much 😂). No, these donuts actually represent a little bit of progress, and while I am 99.99% sure it had nothing to do with me, it feels nice to imagine and pretend the fact that these donuts are now on sale in Australia due to my pestering. So on the bird site, this is the exchange I had with Krispy Kreme UK a year and a bit ago:

-Me: "Someone bought Krispy Kreme donuts at the office today and I missed out. But it's ok, it was worth it.

Hey @ krispykremeUK, can you tell the Australian division to make vegan options? 🌱"

*Picture of Lisa Simpsons looking at the inside of her home while a group of people watch the boxing game with stolen cable*

-Krispykreme: "Oh noooo! What would your dream doughnut be? 👀"

-M: "Thank you so much for your response. A vegan Krispy Kreme with Oreo would blow my mind! 😋😍

I know us Australians are a bit behind the times but if you can give your former colony a gentle kick in the bum, the vegans in Australia would much appreciate it! 😂"

*Gif of Homer Simpsons about to boot a judge or barrister in that episode where they go to Australia*

-K: "We'll be sure to pass your suggestions over to our team 😉"

-M: "Thank you so much! 🌱🐮🐄🐣"

-M: "The best part is, I would be incredibly surprised if (done in a double blind randomised fashion 👩‍🔬🧑‍🔬🔬👨‍💻), that any person would be able to distinguish a Krispy Kreme Donut with or without chicken eggs or cow milk. So the taste & that delicious donut will still be there!🤣🍩"

  3. @ConscienHealth I am an #AnnoyingVegan but also with a scientist background so I too am hesitant to be jumping for joy over this article. It is definitely viral and the news media is spreading it like wildfire. Probably a lot of angry people spreading it too. As to whether it helps the veganism cause or not I am not quite sure.

I of course like to say the classic "further studies" are needed to establish any benefit if any of cats being on a vegan diet. The fact that cats are obligate carnivores would be a whole other debate!

  4. Take at a look at these empathetic, caring, and compassionate #Farmers from #Australia that love their animals so much and consider their welfare at the forefront of their minds, not the 💲💰💲 in front of their eyes. 🐑🐏

    abc.net.au/news/rural/2023-08-

If the sheep are going to get killed by getting shot in the head at a loss, rather than sent to the slaughterhouse (to get killed for a profit), why not just send them to a sanctuary for free and just let them live out their lives? What difference does it make since you won't be making money on them anyway?

I suppose the transport cost to the sanctuary would be a barrier. Among other issues I wouldn't be privy to.

I do know one thing though, and that is that those sheep are sentient. They feel pain, sadness, happiness. And they would have rather not been shot in the head or sent to a slaughterhouse. A shred of empathy, caring, and compassion will tell you that.

  5. If I had the means, land, resources, etc. to create an #AnimalSanctuary, I think I would create a #cat sanctuary. For all the poor, old, unwanted cats out there, to potentially be their forever home, or possibly their temporary home before they get adopted in a true forever home with a loving family. I would need a lot of fencing and wire to ensure no wildlife encounters and escape occurs! 😂

Second on my list would be a #chicken and #rooster sanctuary (kept separately of course*), where they can have space to live out their lives in peace. I have been thinking about chickens and all other forms of birds lately, in terms of a #veganism perspective. A recent estimate** in terms of the number of land animals killed for food (that huge number you always see #vegans ranting on about), is now estimated at 92.2 billion for 2023. The majority of those individuals would be birds of one sort of another, primarily chickens. 🐔🐣

Thinking about it some more, I came across this piece by #KarenDavis of #UnitedPoultryConcerns and the unfortunate views of #PeterSinger*** when it comes to his viewpoints regarding chickens:

    upc-online.org/thinking/peter_

I say unfortunate, as the "Father of Animal Liberation****", it really saddens me to see his views exposed so clearly and his disdain for chickens shown so plainly. I suppose he is being practical/centrist/unemotive/etc. in his views, and perhaps he is trying to reach more people, by appearing more flexible and open, so that others out there that are not yet #vegan would consider the option of becoming vegan and embrace this philosophy for life. But really, not to be that #AnnoyingVegan, but he almost sounds like a #Flexitarian, being open to eat what he can when travelling, not upsetting hosts when invited over to dinner, and being ok with backyard hens and their eggs.

I guess it is easy to bash on someone that has done so much for the animal rights movement, but I do think that it is important to call out people, no matter how loved or famous, if some of their views dont correspond to the rest of their actions and stated beliefs and philosophies.*****

In the meanwhile, I will continue imagining all the animals I will try and save one day, but really I am more grateful for the many (though not enough) sanctuaries out there that are currently giving animals of all sorts (least of all, chickens) a safe presence, away from the living nightmare that is the reality of the majority of their species existence. 🌱

****I think this is given to him by others, I have never seen him claim this title.
*****Not that I am famous, but I am happy to be called out by my actions and words if they are not aligned and happy to make corrections accordingly.

  6. @lzvolk @wall0159 @punko @gorfram I don't mind at all Gussy, I am always happy to have people contribute to conversations.

Yeah, I agree it's not possible for a lot of people, whether it be due to health reasons, disability, or in an indigenous situation. However, if you can (and many many people can), then they should, for the planet (environment), for their health (a #wfpb or whole foods plant based diet would apply in this scenario), and as I harp on elsewhere (#AnnoyingVegan and all my obvious bias), for the animals, which never seem to have a voice at the table, but are simply on the table. But it is true, reducing is much better than keeping the status quo, even if a person can't do total liberation! I haven't read his book (Regenesis?) but I have seen him in many interviews, and he has a lot of fascinating things to say.

We may have evolved as omnivores, but we have also evolved with wisdom teeth (and a range of other things, look up human vestigiality on Wikipedia), things which were useful once upon a time out of survival or evolutionary advantage, but now it is shown that they are not necessary (for most people, I am sure there are always exceptions). Let's not even get into all the societal atrocities we did in old times that we now look on with shame.

  7. @CStamp @imtheq Or to not kill them at all and leave the lobsters alone. Ah, but one can only dream of such foolish thoughts! 😂

    #AnnoyingVegan #vegan

  8. @filiph

    -limit red meat.

Or better yet, eliminate animal products from your diet completely and #goVegan. Something that would do an incredible amount to personally reduce your emissions.

But I suppose that would be like telling people to not fly at all or not drive a car at all which is probably unrealistic?

  9. All right everyone, #vegans, #vegetarian, non-vegan, people from all backgrounds and philosophies, what is your opinion of #PeTA?

I ask this as I know there is a lot of hate on them for their controversial ad campaigns, but I never really looked into it until I saw this video:

    youtu.be/hDJCiFk6k4w

I welcome everyone to state their thoughts, or simply vote your opinion on this informal poll.

I have posted some thoughts on this, but I am keen to read people's opinion on this. I acknowledge that I am heavily biased (#AnnoyingVegan and all).

  10. @chavan Thank you for sharing this. I am not a subscriber to the Atlantic so I am unable to read the article, but it is good to see #PeterSinger get a decent amount of coverage for his upcoming book. I have a few gripes about his certain leniency to certain conditions where he says eating animals is ok (I am curious if he alluded to that in this article?), but I am sure that's just the #AnnoyingVegan in me talking. 😂

  11. Philosopher #PeterSinger, author of #AnimalLiberation is releasing an updated book called #AnimalLiberationNow. Here is an interview he had with #ZoëCorbyn:

    theguardian.com/world/2023/may

I look forward to reading both the old and updated book, and see how much/little has changed. Looks like it will give a bigger spotlight on the #ClimateEmergency aspect in relation to the animal agricultural industry.

A few things I am disappointed about, from a #vegan perspective (#AnnoyingVegan bias incoming):

    1. Describing himself as 'flexibly vegan'.
    2. Eating oysters (even if oyster farming is apparently an environmentally sustainable industry).
    3. His defense of 'consientious omnivores'. Q&A in full:

"Conscientious omnivores oppose factory farming but continue to eat animal products from farmers who treat their animals well and don’t subject them to suffering. Do they get a pass?
Honestly, I can’t show that they are wrong. Assume that the cows wouldn’t have existed if they weren’t going to be sold for their meat and the conscientious omnivores investigate how their food is produced, and can be confident that the animals really do have good lives and are killed painlessly and without suffering – then I think they do get a pass. They’re allies in the movement against factory farming, and a world of conscientious omnivores would produce much less meat and dairy products, with vastly less suffering."

Let me expand on point 3:🧵
