📺: ruri rocks is certainly a show that is quite literally a hidden gem of a summer show. It has charm and some gremlin behaviour that most CGDCT don't really have.

The Black Ships arrive in Kyoto as the shogunate stumbles toward ruin. Living amidst the chaos is Nio, a kindhearted boy on the verge of discovering his destiny. He meets two “Miburo,” Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soji, members of the band of Mibu ronin who will later become the famous Shinsengumi. With dreams of a better world, Nio joins their fight to defend the city

An historical adventure with swords and samurais

After watching 2 episodes, whilst I don’t think it is the best (its okay) in terms of animation, I did find myself being drawn in, watching Nio a child with snow coloured hair and blue eyes, wanting to change the world. Surrounded by adult samurai’s who are Ronin’s, a leaderless faction that police a small part of Kyoto. Watching Nio finding his way in this hard world, in to wanting to make a difference, I found myself rooting for him

The narrative is more grounded in reality, diverging from the typical shounen genre. Despite its historical setting, it eschews exaggerated movements and flamboyant swordplay for straightforward, swing-and-slash action.

Blue miburo certainly took me by surprise considering it’s done by Maho Films, where they mostly do nice shows with little confrontations or if they did, without any bloodshed. So, to see them do a show were confrontations, with bloodshed included isn’t something that I come to know them for. So, kudos for trying out a new thing.

Winter first impression

The weakest Tamer began a journey to pick up trash First Impression (2024)

Hime-sama “Goumon” no Jikan Desu First Impression (2024)

Nio is a kind-hearted orphan, yet he is extremely sharp even observant kid. From the word go, he could tell the new customers coming in to his adopted granny and sister shop weren’t your typical locals. Noting how Hijikata wasn’t too fond of sweets, he recommended something else instead. After leaving the shop, he joined up with the rest of miburo’s, where he instantly took to them after having some thoughts about them.

Two characters significantly influence Nio’s development. Hijikata, the man with a stoney face, that scares kids, is actually nice to kids. As he is probably the closest to Nio in terms of helping him in his development.

Okita is your typical ladies’ man. A pretty man with a deadly skill with a sword.

Would I continue watching?

I’d watch it in between shows, it has peaked my interest

Initial Impression:

Oh, the humanity! in torturing the princess by … treating and feeding her well, 😂🤣😂🤣. I just find tis’ time for torture princess just hilarious. It is just comedic at its best, on how they treat Hime well, just so they can get the imperial kingdoms secrets.

What is even more hilarious, I find, the secrets tend to be useless. So, they continue torturing her. In the most comical of ways, Hime is selling out her nation, all though there is a bit of sadness to it. I’ll get to that in the characters section.

There are some really scrummy foods on show in the first episode, boy heck did I wanted to eat my screen.

Characters:

Hime, or Saiiiiibaaaaa! nah, just kidding. Hime and her sentient sword Ex are captured by the hellhorde. In the most ironic twist, their torture method is by treating her well. This by giving scrummy food and even playing videogames. Ex is the “voice of reason”, only to be let completely down by Hime, who gives in. Now, why I find it a bit sad, Hime never really had the life she desired. She didn’t have friends, or had a life where she didn’t feel some pressure to live up to or something. Whilst in captivity, she lets go and slowly finds that her enemies aren’t really her enemies.

Torture Tortura, not much is known about her besides being the lead torturer, in extracting the kingdoms secrets from Hime, only to find it useless of sorts. She is the one that actually treats Hime well.

Would I continue watching?

YES!!! the over top comedy is something I enjoy
