At least #AnilSeth had the decency to say "Conscious machines MAY never be possible."

But why the mad rush to constantly downplay the stunning leaps in capacity of AI as "definitely not conscious?"

What property, other than information processing, do we think makes humans conscious?

I can't say for sure that machines WILL ever be conscious. But it's likely that they're headed in that direction.

"How will we detect machine consciousness?" Seems the better question.
