  1. #AngelaCarter on #VirginiaWoolf Just so good. I mean, she always surprises and delights me:
"Borges, talking about Finnegans Wake, said that one day its simplicities would become apparent to everybody and, ‘Like all great novels,’ like The Odyssey, Gulliver’s Travels, Don Quixote, it would be read by children."

  2. CW: Literature, crude

"There is no element of the metaphysical about pissing."

  3. @rowenamonde. It's very strange. I like it. I haven't read much #AngelaCarter and wonder if it's representative or strange -- even for her!

  4. @rowenamonde. And do you have a favorite #AngelaCarter book? I'm currently reading Love (1971).

  5. Don't you just love it when you're reading a #book and you learn new #words? Today, thanks to #AngelaCarter, I learned the words, "ogive" and "gorse."

  7. UK peeps, Taking Pictures has Neil Jordan's Company of Wolves, adapted from Angela Carter's tales, on late this evening. Lush mixture of awakening sexuality, coming of age, repression, release and horror.

"The worst kind of wolves are hairy on the inside..."

Angela Carter, 1968. This image was a Tweet from Dr. Dickon Edwards @dickon_edwards on the site that shall not be named. If I had one writer who has influenced me beyond any other, it would be Angela Carter. I taught her work in night school classes, and she visits me in dreams sometimes, dispensing writing advice in the form of puzzles I must solve. #AngelaCarter #AmWriting #WritingCommunity #WritingLife #FairyTale

  9. 'And a few of them had taken to the river, as if they had grown to distrust even the dry land itself.'

  10. Company of Wolves reminds me of Pan's Labyrinth. del Toro must have seen it. And I bet he liked it. Maybe he's credited it as an influence. Until I hear otherwise, I'm gonna just assume it was a strong influence. I know he will be a fan of #AngelaCarter. How could he not be?

  11. I'd seen clips from Company of Wolves before. But today is the first time I've watched the film from start to finish. Not sure why I never stuck with it before. Based on a short story from a collection by Angela Carter which should have won the Booker Prize. Good director. And some wonderful cast. Carter was also a co script writer. Definitely worth two hours of my time. youtu.be/iGOzM2Urpoc #AngelaCarter

  12. A 1979 interview with Angela Carter by David Pringle, about science fiction, New Worlds, genres, feminism, her life — a really rich conversation.
