Since early 2020 I've read just about all studies re. #Covid, and have been wearing a mask since.
I know lots of people that have had Covid several times. In my opinion, based on experience, it always leaves a trace.
This summer I was hospitalised for altogether 6 months with #aneurysm in my brain. Luckily I came out of that without an infection, incl. when I was in a coma for 2 or 3 weeks.So for about 6 months I didn't read any news re Covid, but the basics have stayed the same

I'm only partway through my second spin, and as with most Squarepusher records this one rewards repeated listening. Dostrotime is dark and frenetic, harsh and at times menacing. It culminates in Domelash, all buzzsaw triangle waves and microtonal dissonance and metallic screeching and pounding brokebeat and sounds kind of like an aneurysm? But in a good way?
I would say the album is relentless, but that's not really true -- the sequencing provides just enough respite to keep you engaged without being overwhelmed. The denouement is the serene, Art-of-Noise-adjacent Heliobat; the trio of Arkteon 1, 2, and 3 are little vignettes of bass guitar stillness that frame the madness, contain it. Wilkinson is at the top of his game here and seems to be having a hell of a lot of fun.
If you aren't familiar with the tradition of 180bpm acid breakbeats lurking in the dark corners of electronica this record will be a difficult entrypoint both for Squarepusher and the genre as a whole; for that I recommend the funky, melodic pulse of 2006's Hello Everything. But there's a lot to love about Dostrotime and I'm going to be playing it a lot this year!
