Petit souvenir de vacances dont je suis fier :
Un jeune qui débutait en gravel me disait qu'il "n'avait pas la caisse" pour monter au col, alors il restait dans la vallée. Je lui ai répondu : "Moi, je mets un plateau de 30 comme sur un VTT et ça monte très bien".
Marre de la dictature de la performance qui fait qu'on vend des vélos à des débutants avec des plateaux que seuls les gars du World Tour peuvent emmener...

À l'aéroport, il faut maintenant scanner soi-même sa carte d'embarquement et sa valise et mettre la valise sur la courroie et tout le tralala, c'est tout libre-service (enfin, si on peut parler de service...).
Une employée aide un monsieur qui n'avait pas trop l'air de comprendre comment ça marche.

I love #CFL #referee Ben Major. In tonight's game (Toronto at Calgary) it was a bit of a blowout for Calgary, and partway through the final quarter Toronto put in Nick Arbuckle, their backup quarterback.
As is common for a QB who doesn't get much "real" field time, there were some miscues resulting in flags. And at one point, flags flew, and Major got on the P.A. and called "Offside Toronto - everyone except the center" 😆
This is the same ref that a couple of years ago was calling a game in the Vancouver dome. At some point they had a kickoff and it was quickly whistled dead. He announced on the P.A. "The ball hit the scoreboard. ... Which is weird. We'll reset the clock and re-kick." The crowd got a real kick out of it.
But the best part was the following week, exactly the same thing happened again, with Major also being the head ref for the game. On the P.A. he announced "The ball hit the scoreboard. ... Again. Which is weird" and just about brought the house down.
They ended up raising the scoreboard a few feet after that.

Des infos dont je ne ferai sûrement jamais rien de ma vie. Pourtant, j'aime nourrir mon cerveau avec ce savoir totalement inutile. Ça ne me rapporte rien, ça ne me sert à rien (au pire, à répondre à une question au Trivial Pursuit 🤣 ), c'est juste le fun de comprendre comment fonctionne notre monde. -
When I first heard "the plural of #anecdote is not #data," I thought it was very clever, and repeated it endlessly. So did, and do, a bunch of other people.
The original form of that saying was "the plural of anecdote is data." It was meant to urge researchers not to dismiss rare or unexpected results as #outliers. Both "the plural of anecdote is data" and "the plural of anecdote is not data" can be true, depending on context.
Like other #science aphorisms which have entered popular culture, particularly those containing the phrase "is not," this is a constant annoyance. I know my complaints won't make them go away. But I hope I can at least get people thinking about them, rather than parroting them and feeling smug.
Just something that came up tangentially today. Now, back to sorting out the anecdotes. Cells are wordy little bastards.

Juste après la guerre, le 19 septembre 1945, l'archiviste Yves Pérotin se marie avec sa fiancée Gilberte Dumon à l'église Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, en Gironde. Quels jours plus tard, ils partent en voyage de noces à l’hôtel Regina de Bagnères-de-Bigorre. La semaine se passe visiblement très bien, mais les jeunes époux arrivent rapidement à court de liquidités et Yves se tourne alors vers son père via un télégramme début octobre pour obtenir un peu d'argent pour le retour : « Très beau voyage, plus argent retour, prions humblement dépanner ».

Anecdote idiote donc indispensable
Je reviens de chez le dentiste pour pose d'un implant et je constate un truc bizarre : parfois, en refermant la bouche, ça se referme pas complètement, comme si un nerf bloquait. Après plusieurs fois, je réalise enfin qu'en fait, c'est parce que je mords la langue s'en m'en rendre compte (c'est encore tout endormi), donc rien à voir 😆

La presbytie et le presbytère on la même éthymologie, au vu de l'orthographe, mais quel est le rapport ?
Et bien, en réalité, le rapport est presque évident quand on apprend la définition du mot grec dont ces deux mots sont issus : πρέσβυς. Cela signifie "ancien" ou "vieil homme".
Parce que la presbytie arrive quand on vieillit. Et qu'un presbytère abrite des vieux prêtres. Oui, "prêtre", un mot qui est issu de la même origine. La boucle est bouclée.

I had quite an interesting journey with my parents' Shih Tzu, Alli, tonight. He is usually very energetic and barks so loudly and at such a high pitch that I sometimes call him Tamagno! I swear, he hit a high C today. Anyway, when my parents leave, he is always anxious and drives me crazy. But tonight, it was as if he were a completely different dog. I played some opera and classical music for him and he just sat there, relaxing, with his head on my leg. He absolutely loves Tagliavini and Gigli, and the former calmed him down a few times. He doesn't like Schipa and barked disapprovingly at De Luca. He was fascinated by Battistini, moving his head and even going toward my Toughpad. He also enjoyed Carlo Buti and tolerated Luigi Fort. He enjoyed Mozart, Chopin, and Mendelssohn's quiet pieces, but Bach was firmly dismissed with a bark. He even turned his nose up at certain arias but liked others. If this continues, he'll be writing his own opera column in the Canine Gazette! And no. I didn't show him his nicknamesake. I'd like to keep him calm, not fill his head with ideas of singing Otello at three o'clock in the morning!
