Niggle: it's not research, but it could be interesting #anecdata. Just don't read too much into it.
I've said a few times that all Fedi posts containing polls that say "boost for better sample" (or "research" here, similar) should be required to have one of the response options be "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN".

With the onset of "flag weather", I've observed an uptick in anti-maga house decorations in my area.
I'm not even pretending to claim any statistical significance, it's simply an observation.

I have a new theory based on #anecdata:
In the long term, #corporateIT decides against the best product or technology.
Anecdata points:
- #OS2
- #NovellNetWare
- #LotusNotes
- #XML (this may be a tad controversial) -

@allpoints Thanks! For a mastodon poll that, on its face, shouldn't be that controversial, my gut says there should be about 1 comment for every 15-20 votes, so thanks for keeping us on track :) #anecdata

#anecdata Had to do med check today, and Dr. B tells me political anxiety (and the clinical consequences thereof) are just a regular part of his and others' practice now.
Not that there was any doubt, I suppose. But if having Nazis in the halls of power is interfering with your mood or your ability to function, at least be advised that you are not alone.

@ChrisMayLA6 to your last point, I've worked in the corporate world my whole career, and all of my most evil bosses were women. I have had some nice/good women bosses too and some evil men, but the top 5 evils were women.

More bits of #anecdata from what turned to be "catch up with former colleagues" day. Even the big wealthy universities and research labs are entirely up in arms.
Probably not admins quite so much, but the people who have to actually accomplish stuff. Faculty and staff and whatnot.

@tantramar we had zero side effects this time around #anecdata

For what it's worth, in a few Zoom calls so far with colleagues around the world, I have stuck with the name Aotearoa.
Only once I had to clarify that New Zealand is the colonial name.
No one has been confused, bothered or made a fuss out of the indigenous name of this land.
People overseas are fine using the name Aotearoa.
It is only local racists who seem to struggle with it. -
@todayilearned writing stuff out in a notepad or on a sticky note or whatever, increases my information retention a ton. #anecdata

Wow, my anecdotal observations are true: #SF has less traffic law enforcement than other major cities, and it’s down across the board since 2019. #SanFrancisco #anecdata

According to the sampling in my immediate social circles, the Coalition of Corruption is on track to solve the Housing Crisis by....... Wait for it....
Getting everyone in NZ to move somewhere else. 🥁

I was there many years, and never noticed that. But:
1) left in 2008, so maybe a new thing?
2) my hair grows stupid slow, so even "faster" might not have been noticeable.

Every night there's one or two mosquitoes that buzz past me as i settle in for sleep. Until last year it used to be one in a week. I worry this elevation (1750m) won't be enough to escape them in a few years.

@caseynewton I wonder if FOMO around Bluesky helped convince some early adopters who couldn't get Bluesky invites?
My insta is basically friends plus some art and garden accounts. The only people I've noticed trying Threads work in design/tech, so I'm guessing they were both curious and felt obliged to try it. Others aren't looking for a Twitter alternative as they're over it #anecdata

CW: Transfem, question on migraine & HRT
The question occupying my mind right now is, since statistically women are more likely to suffer #migraine, is that linked to #estrogen or something else? I seem to be getting worse ever since starting #HRT and thinking now if it's connected, or not.
I am going to see a neurologist later in the year so no need to recommend that. Just need to collect a headache journal first. But would be nice to hear #anecdata so I can counteract any reactionary doctor just telling me to stop taking hormones?
I've had it ever since childhood but only had one attack until a few years ago. It did start increasing slightly even before hormones but has increased rapidly during the past year I've been on HRT into an almost daily experience. My sisters have always had it way worse than myself. The headache itself is not super strong for me, but the severe #nausea has been diagnosed as an aura effect of migraine. (Not super confident this is a correct diagnosis, not done by a specialist.)

Definitely having my own “it is somehow /easier/ to go kinda-viral on the #Fediverse than it was on #Twitter” moments the last few weeks/months. #anecdata

@kairyssdal This is right in line with my experience. In the office I manage, it's been weeks since no one had to stay home to care for a sick child. Cold, flu, Covid, RSV, hand-foot-mouth, you name it. #anecdata

CW: birdsite v. mastodon
Yesterday I posted a #GiveAway for 2 tickets for an #a11y course to 2 Twitter accounts w/a combined 5542 followers and, a few hours later, to 1 Mastodon account with 83 followers. Which channel do you think did better?
To be eligible to win 1 of the tix, you had to retweet any of the tweets in the 2 threads (Twitter) or boost the post (Mastodon).
As of this morning:
31 total retweets
40 boostsThis doesn’t *prove* anything (#anecdata) but is an interesting data point! 🤔
