J'ai terminé de visionner le documentaire «Alphas», de Simon Coutu, qui porte sur le masculinisme à la Andrew Tate. Je dirais pas que c'est un échec sur toute la ligne mais je retiens quatre critiques:

1. Bien que l'enseignante interviewée soit une excellente interlocutrice, la plupart des experts de la question qui sont présentés dans le docu sont des hommes. C'est pertinent que des hommes parlent de masculinité, évidemment, mais j'aurais pitché au moins une femme au travers.

2. Un des experts est Samuel Vessière. Il apparaît à deux reprises: la 1ère fois, on le voit interagir avec des jeunes et la 2e, on le voit intervenir après un segment très violent sur les personnes trans et les drag queens. Or:
- Samuel Vessière est lui-même un activiste transphobe et «antiwoke» assez virulent.
- Lors de sa 2e intervention, il ne réagit pas aux propos transphobes qui viennent de passer à l'écran. On se demande alors pour quelle raison il apparaît à ce moment-là.
Dans tous les cas, cette apparition lui donne un vernis de respectabilité supplémentaire, qu'il ne mérite absolument pas.

Simon Coutu travaille à Radio-Canada, et je crains fort que ce soit les recherchistes de la plateforme ou ses collègues journalistes qui lui aient refilé ce contact. Ça signifierait que Radio-Can n'a pas tenu compte des critiques que les groupes 2SLGBTQIA+ lui ont adressées après la parution du reportage «Trans Express» où Vessière a été largement mis de l'avant. Et ça, c'est inquiétant.

3. Lorsqu'un mascu sort les pires atrocités sur le mouvement queer, reprenant l'anecdote mensongère au sujet du slogan «we're here, we're queer, we're coming for your children» qui aurait été scandé dans une manif, Simon Coutu garde le silence, l'air ahuri.

Coutu aurait pu faire l'effort de googler.

Il aurait alors appris qu'il s'agissait d'un seul individu déformant un slogan alors crié par la foule, l'original étant «we're here, we're queer, we're not going shopping». Ça lui aurait donné l'occasion de soulever que les propos mascus sont faux en substance, au moins en postprod.

4. Simon Coutu semble pas avoir relevé la référence au meme du trad couple, dans le segment où on voit Joël McGuirk aller à l'église avec sa femme. Cette dernière porte alors une robe quasiment identique à celle du personnage mémesque de la «trad wife» (voir images ci-dessous). Malgré que Coutu ait eu le contrôle sur le produit fini, ouvertement critique des mascus, il laisse à McGuirk le contrôle de l'image et du symbole. Pour plusieurs, c'est cette référence symbolique qui sera retenue, plus que le propos intentionnellement diffusé par le journaliste.
