it's not #medaka or plants in terms of weekly income, but 400€ for 3 months of rearing ~50 #angelfish and ~50 #ancistrus to sellable size with zero effort isn't bad at all as far as this experiment goes (one 230l #aquarium only). break that down in a year assuming the fish breed as actively as they have, and it's roughly 1600€. enough to cover pretty much all #fishhobby expenses!
I plan to setup another large tank with #sterbai, #neocaridina, and #CPD. With #javamoss and #sessifilora and #53b!

but then... the #kribs, which decidedly did not want to breed for a long time now, also decided to hatch the same day... in the same tank.
...and naturally, the #endlers which are there temporarily, also released fry today (nothing for 2 months).
because why not all do it at the same time! not at all a recipe for disaster!🙃

finally! it just took a year! +perfect timing! i'm in the middle of retooling my hobby. getting rid of everything except:
- #angelfish pair (230l tank)
- #kribs pair (54l tank)
- #bettas (6x 43l breeder tanks)
- #guppies (3x 110l tanks)
- #CPD (54l tank)as well as #ancistrus, #neocaridina and #aquariumplants, to maximize gains per tank. these are all the best to breed for trade- always in demand. good prices. only missing #medaka and #espei. no space tho.

Last week I donated the pond fish (#medaka, #whiteclouds, and #notropis), today I donated the last batch of the tropical microfish (#sundadanio, #tetras) project. All that's left at home now are #guppies, #angelfish, #ancistrus, keyhole #cichlids, #corydoras and the old #kuhli loaches.
i'm not getting more corys or loaches; but they aren't disturbing any fish or eating fry so they get to stay.
will consolidate to just guppies, ancistrus, and #shrimp (neos) going forward. and my rare #plants :)

Please tell me this is finally a courtship display after all this time. They've been at it all day. I would love to have some fry to secure my population!
All other ancistrus color lines that were acquired at the same time as them were lost to various diseases and other issues :(

the L519 male and ancistrus sp. lemon blue-eye longfin female died shortly after I got them; i paired their counterparts together over a year ago and finally got 3 baby hybrids! they looks just like the L519 so far - maybe i will get some L519-looking longfins eventually!

The #blackout finally ended. 44 hours. Tonight would have been rough compared to yesterday since it's going to be -12°C and I wouldn't be able to pull another all-nighter keeping the fire alive.
The #aquarium tanks have somehow kept warmer than the #fishscrub itself and the last measure (just now) at 13°. I'm happy to announce all #guppies (and #ancistrus) alive; albeit incredibly sluggish. Heating the room at max now so hopefully temperatures will return to sanity by the morrow!

My Ancistrus sp. Calico finally grew to respectable size. I hope they will breed some day soon :)
I really don't get why they aren't more popular. I think they look fantastic (albeit the photo definitely doesn't do them justice. my iphone camera changes too many colors).

Look at that! It's the first time I see an albino with an almost pink color and pink eyes in my breeding group (granted, my albino line occurred spontaneously from my very old brown line). It seems otherwise healthy so it might be a new mutation? If it still retain its color once it matures I will start working on a pink line for sure!

Look at that! It's the first time I see an albino with an almost pink color and pink eyes in my breeding group (granted, my albino line occurred spontaneously from my very old brown line). It seems otherwise healthy so it might be a new mutation? If it still retain its color once it matures I will start working on a pink line for sure!

for whatever reason, this #ancistrus male insists on using the decorative skull that came with the tank as his breeding cave rather than any of the 6 designed breeding caves i've bought for him over the past ~2 years and keep in his tank.
how he even manages to pin the female in there without her escaping through one of the many large holes remains a mystery. and keeps the damn skull in there (i've wanted to get rid of it since the very beginning!).

I've seen a handful of photos of red #ancistrus. usually the fish on such photos is a citrus orange or borderline yellow. It's one of the reasons why I never bothered getting some (LFS never carry). But since I'm currently collecting ancistrus, I had to get some of the red as well, and wow. I don't know if it's specifically my line, or if other photos just suck. But these are genuinely, actually, red! love it!

Things are starting to shape up! (don't mind the paint job ...I ran out of paint)
More or less done with the second shelf! Just need to fit 2x more 45L tanks into it and buy another light panel for the bottom row. Also stuffed a 75L tank into the 54L shelf, might try get another 2x of the same design rather than 4x more 54L.
I originally planned for 16x more aquariums, but now I think I'll go for an additional 10x 😂

Went down south this weekend with the local #aquarium club and got myself a bunch of new fish!
- Guppy: Blue Phantom
- Guppy: Full Red Albino
- Ancistrus: L519
- Ancistrus: Rio Paraguay
- Ancistrus: Red Longfin
- Ancistrus: Snow White Longfin
- Ancistrus: Green Dragon Longfin
- Swordtail: ShowaI regret not getting #Ancistrus claro, as well as Blond Snakeskin Filigran endler hybrid which was stunningly beautiful (and very rare: breeder bought his line from the danish guppy show some year back).

Just hatched! Now working on an albino ancistrus line!
The F2 of our original wildcolor parents gave us 2 albino fry 2 years ago. We ended up with males, the brood female is introduced from LFS stock.
The genes should be strong due to minimal relation between the pairs! we will breed her with the other male next if there are any females among the fry and cross their fry back with our base males to strengthen the genetic lineage going forward 😁
