  1. The Battle of Jutland Memorial contains all those that were killed in action or died of wounds at the battle (31 May to 1 June 1916). A total of 6109 names are included with 1071 photographs.
It is hoped that this will prove to be a useful resource for those with an interest in genealogy generally or who are specifically researching their family trees.

  2. Really sorry to see that #Ancestorian has shut down. I wasn’t there all that often, but it was an incredibly useful site with knowledgeable genealogists from all over the world, and I made several breakthroughs there because total strangers were eager to help. #genealogy #geneadons

  7. Thanks to several enthusiastic researchers on #Ancestorian, I've managed to find out where my ancestors lived in Deptford even though the street named in their documents hasn't existed in 200 years. #genealogy #genohistory #geneadons

  8. @peterdeppisch Also, I was thinking about your impressions of #Ancestorian. I agree there's a lot more there for people with British than German ancestry. However, it might be worth contributing what you already know to the relevant page. As new people discover the site, they will be more likely to stick around if there is already information there. And it's possible one of the people already on the site might have knowledge about your area of origin - worth asking?

  9. @peterdeppisch There was a good discussion on #Ancestorian about this. Someone sent me a RCHME paper from 1998 that discusses houses still surviving on Tanner's Hill, which was formerly called Pound Row. All of my documents say Pound Lane, but it might have been nearby. The houses were those of artisans and labourers at the dockyard - which my ancestors were at this time. It's quite interesting.

  10. @ancestorian Have only been on this site for a day and a bit, and already I've been prompted by other users to take a fresh look at one of my ancestral lines - the result being that I finally saw connections I hadn't seen before, and a generational link that was tentative two days ago is much stronger now. #genealogy #geneadons #ancestorian #genohistory
