  1. NO PASA NADA:

"President Javier Milei of Argentina promoted a cryptocurrency last year that quickly skyrocketed in value then cratered just as fast, costing investors millions of dollars and setting off a scandal and an investigation.

Mr. Milei said he was simply highlighting a private venture and had no connection to the digital coin called $Libra.

New evidence is now raising questions about his assertion.
Phone logs from a federal investigation by Argentine prosecutors into the coin’s collapse show seven phone calls between Mr. Milei and one of the entrepreneurs behind the cryptocurrency on the night in 2025 when Mr. Milei posted about $Libra on X.

The contents of the calls, which took place before and after Mr. Milei’s post, are not known.

But the phone logs — which were obtained by The New York Times and first reported by a local cable news channel, C5N — suggest a greater degree of communication between Mr. Milei and the entrepreneurs who launched the token than what the president has publicly acknowledged. Newly uncovered messages also suggest Mr. Milei received regular payments from one of the entrepreneurs while he was a congressman.

Mr. Milei has not publicly commented on the call logs and other documents, and he did not respond to a request for comment.
He is named as a person of interest in the federal prosecutor’s continuing investigation into the digital coin, according to court documents reviewed by The Times, but has not been formally charged with any crime."

  2. Do we have a cost of living crisis, or are we experiencing the finding out part after f'ing around? #freedom can only be approached, and it requires arbitrators. I used to be a romantic, naive #anarchist. So, I understand the motivations behind taking on such a #political view. Two experiences healed me of my intellectual misguidance. First, I spent over half a year in a commune, based on anarchist ideals. And then, I discovered #rightwing anarchy - #anarchocapitalism. Great #learning experience

  3. The Militarised Libertarian Skinheads (M.L.S.) is a skinhead movement that combines military aesthetics with urban life. The M.L.S. movement advocates for the rights to life, liberty and property, as well as the right to possess and carry firearms, and supports open-source software.

  4. @microglyphics

#Anarchocapitalism is philosophically inconsistent due to its failure to hold workers responsible for the positive and negative results of production. Once that is done, a very different system from #capitalism emerges of democratic worker coops.

AI and robotics are tools that workers use. They don’t make workers’ inalienable rights obsolete.

  5. #AskFedi Any #anticapitalist -s around?

    How do you define "Capitalism"?

Asking since as a self-termed #libertarian / an-cap, I tend to equate "capitalism" with free markets and thus freedom to contract at will; but from trending posts around here, I can't help but think that people use "capitalism" to refer to e.g. the currying of political favors by big business, which is very much _not_ free market. So like, I feel I have a definitional difference there 😅

  6. "The output of new fusionism was and continues to be virulently, nauseatingly racist. One prominent figure in the movement gleefully recalled watching a peer tell “a black intellectual that his race’s problems might be caused by an hereditary IQ deficiency.” Another, Richard J. Herrnstein, a co-author of the notorious “The Bell Curve,” wrote in a letter to a friend: “It continually amazes me that even biologists deny having eugenic sentiments, as if they were shameful.”

The end goal of such a noxious politics was to enshrine racial and gendered inequalities as inevitable, to outsource the difficult work of democratic dispute to pseudoscientists, and to appeal to the ostensible authority of biology to quash dissent. (Never mind that virtually all credible biologists rejected its assertions.) It was a political movement that aspired to eliminate politics altogether, replacing disagreement in the public sphere with the fatalism of genetics.

“Hayek’s Bastards” can be dense — a risk for any serious work of intellectual history — but it can also be entertaining. Slobodian’s wry commentary offers welcome respite from both the difficulty and the moral odiousness of his subject: He describes a neoliberal economist’s choice to live in an artists loft as “off-brand” and decries the “punitive neo-Victorian tone” of new fusionist books with titles like “The Loss of Virtue.”"

  7. "The majority of people in Argentina (53%) are now living in poverty. Their purchasing power and standard of living have been crushed by Milei’s brutal austerity.

Nearly three-quarters (72%) of Argentines said in June 2024, after half a year of Milei’s rule, that they were worse off economically.

While Argentina’s real economy is in crisis, the stock market has boomed, enriching local oligarchs and rich foreign investors.

Milei’s government has also promoted a notorious carry trade scheme known as the “bicicleta financiera” (financial bicycle) that has guaranteed massive returns for the few Argentines wealthy enough to invest.

Aside from finance, the few other sectors of the economy that are growing under Milei are agriculture and mining — extractive industries that rely on exports and benefit from a falling currency and weak domestic demand.

In short, Argentina is being turned into an impoverished, deindustrialized resource colony for foreign corporations and oligarchs."

"[W]e are witnessing something new: the convergence of three strains of politics that have never simultaneously been this proximate to power [..] the Wall Street–#SiliconValley nexus of distressed debt and startup culture; anti–New Deal #conservativeThinkTanks; and the extremely online world of #anarchocapitalism and right-wing accelerationism." - #QuinnSlobodian

  10. "Milei has reason to boast: he has stabilised a notoriously turbulent economy that had fallen into its worst crisis in two decades after the left-leaning Peronist government printed billions of dollars’ worth of local currency to fund spending.

But Argentina’s situation is still critical. While the economy appears to be emerging from a recession that began last year, it is expected to finish this year 3 per cent smaller than in 2023, according to JPMorgan. The bank’s growth forecast of 5.2 per cent in 2025 would only return Argentina’s per capita GDP to where it was in 2021, as it emerged from the pandemic.

With industries and wages depressed, Argentines have yet to recover from a steep drop in living standards that began roughly a decade ago, and accelerated in the early months of Milei’s presidency. The share of the population living in poverty climbed 11 percentage points in the first half of 2024 to 53 per cent, according to the national statistics agency."

  11. I was going to do one last sketch on Ian Smith, but, to be honest, he's just a gymbro science-denier that sells "water treatments" and supplements. 🥱

What's the point of all this?

These grifters are insidious and the far-right is trying to appropriate leftist terminologies and twist them.

They take small grains of truth, the base rhetoric of AnComs and grow genetically modified shitmuffins from them. If you ever doubt this is happening, remember that Nazi is short for National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Watch yourselves out there, keep your heads on a swivel, and don't assume that people are who they say they are.

  12. @fidel

That seems embarrassing, and I’ve been hearing about the sclerosis of #SanFrancisco for a while, too.

But I feel that proving a non-libertarian wrong in the abstract is indeed very difficult: #ScottAlexander is not arguing that governments and public agencies are always everywhere better than the private sector at everything they set to do — he’s showing that they are not always_worse_. This is intuitively obvious; ie none of the two extremes (absolute statism or #anarchocapitalism) is desirable.

If you’re a moderate, a centrist, or even a #minarchist, this comes as no surprise — no matter how many outrageous pieces of evidence you can collect to illustrate that “the other side” is sometimes inefficient, expensive, or even harmful…

  13. This was quite the rabbit hole.

I was watching a video from More Perfect Union about how the US and Puerto Rico itself have created a wealth inequality that is as profoundly unique as it is disturbing.

In a clip from this video, I noticed something called Anarchapulco in the background. So, I paused it and looked it up.

  14. #MurrayRothbard, founder of anarcho-capitalism:

''...We must therefore conclude that we are not anarchists, and that those who call us anarchists are not on firm etymological ground, and are being completely unhistorical.''

  15. “If you want to take over the factory & make it democratic, you might be an anarchist.
If you want to destroy the factory, you might be an anarchist.
If you want the factory to remain exactly the same … you’re probably not an anarchist.”
