I have a hard time
explaining my feeling
that I am living
like I am already dead
because that's how
I'd once explain
the failures of Christianity
so many live
only thinking of their afterlife
to the detriment
of the world around them
but I am taking that back
I am living for the future
of the earth, the trees, the animals
the humans that will inherit
our legacy
I live my life
caring for the fertile soil
that liberated gardens
will be grown in
by people beyond my lifetime
I am living
like I have already died
but I have never felt more alive -
