  1. “That people move from representing the presidency to representing banks is so normal that we forget the costs: the private job done with the savvy to outfox one’s former public-sector colleagues, the public job done gently to keep open doors.” #AnandGiridharadas nytimes.com/2025/11/23/opinion

    The Epstein Network

    A piece by #EzraKlein and
    #AnandGiridharadas

Wow, yes, this is very very good. Thank you for the link. Truly insightful, on many levels.

The network of the elite and how they assess, use and pay each other. The depth of corruption is frightening, and it is good to be given concepts to describe it.

This text would be a worthy addition to a working bookshelf as a slim paperback, sitting next to weightier volumes by Marcel Mauss or Claude Levy-Strauss.

  3. Epstein Emails Expose How America’s Elites Really See the Rest of Us

Anand Giridharadas explains how the Epstein emails expose elite contempt, inequality, and a culture that normalizes exploitation and moral indifference.

“If you were an alien landing on Earth and the first thing you saw was the Epstein emails, you could gauge status by spelling, grammar, punctuation. Usage is inversely related to #power in this network. The earnest scientists and scholars type neatly. The wealthy and powerful reply tersely, with misspellings, erratic spacing, stray commas.

  5. "None of these things — contrary to popular belief — have anything to do with the still high price of eggs. None of these things will make it easier to start a business. None of these things will make it easier for people to get the education they need, change their lives, leave their kids better off." - #AnandGiridharadas

..."our blood is better with the blood of many people in it. ...

We have built everything we can because we have every kind of idea, every kind of contribution mixing together, and people who don't have a heart, people who are miserly, or people who are cynically trying to raise money off of hatred don't belong in the American story."...

“Among the reasons it is extraordinary: it is a country built of the world, from the world, from every part of the world.”

..."you have to get involved with real #organizations, where people are coming together face to face. This can mean #volunteering at your local precinct office of the Democratic Party. It turns out it's a really low bar to get involved. You could very quickly become the leader of the #local precinct office.."...

#AlsGeekLab does a good job of telling the story of #GaryKildall and #DigitalResearch. It's important to be reminded just how rapacious and repeatedly scummy #BillGates and #Microsoft were, from the very beginning.

As others on here have said in different contexts: if someone shows you who they are, believe them. Being a philanthropist doesn't give you a free pass for your bad behaviour, and creates all kinds of perverse incentives. Shout out to #AnandGiridharadas and his 2018 book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World".

  11. CW: Long thread/9

They invented a modern #ElitePhilanthropy playbook that #AnandGiridharadas documents in his must-read *Winners Take All,* about the charity-industrial complex that washes away an ocean of blood with a trickle of money:

As part of this PR exercise, the individual Sacklers kept their names and images out of the public eye. For years, there were virtually no news-service photos of individual Sacklers.

  12. I think Giridharadas is making the case for a human-centric, holistic and universal strategy.

In my opinion, the objectives of fascists and their Fellow Travelers™ are to:
    - persuade us to compartmentalize traumas
    - inflict cruelty by normalizing physical and psychological violence
    - sustain incoherence (i.e. flood the zone with shit)

  13. CW: Should we abolish billionaires? - Anand Giridharadas on MSNBC

Billionaires seem to be making the case against them all by themselves.
