Cognitive dissonance.
In 2010, while exploring ruined Anamurium (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemurium) I looked up and saw some outlying towers of modern Anamur on the horizon.
It was like a scene from a time travel novel - ancient ruins by a strange sea, with mysterious tall white towers visible on a hillside in the distance.
