I've linked two things from movies several times:
The Great Mouse Detective's burlesque dance scene, and "An American Tail 2's "Dreams To Dream", as both are lovely in their own ways.
Another one, though, also frequently interrupted in the movie, is Tanya Mousekewitz's "The Girl You Left Behind" saloon performance.

I just watched an episode of "Fievel's American Tails", the series based on An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, that I was surprised existed.
But seeing the intro made me realize, I did actually watch the show as a child, I had just completely forgotten about it!
Not for it being bad, it seems, though, because so far it's quite nice.
More silly fun, less heavy emotions, but cute, and visually it's actually similar to the second movie, I like the style.
ALSO, Cathy Cavadini reprises her role as Tanya, and I like that.
Cat R. Waul has a different voice actor, though.
But yeah, the movie's world works well as a series, I think.
The Mousekewitz's name seems misspelled as "Mousekiwitz" on their store, though.
Gotta check if the movie did that, too. -
The movie "Once Upon a Forest" uses the claim "From the creator of 'An American Tail'".
I have no clue where that claim comes from.
The only staff members between these two are:
- James Horner did the music for both
But I don't think you'd call the one doing the music, as nice as it is, "the creator".
The other is:
David Kirschner, one of the producers of "Once Upon a Forest", was also the creator of the TV series "Fievel's American Tails".
This might be fitting, but the series explicitly is not named "AN American Tail", which the claim lists.
At least that's what I could find.
Unfun fact: the German DVD cover of "Once Upon a Forest" also uses the claim like that.

The fact that Bridget wasn't in any important role in any of the "An American Tail" sequels is disappointing.
Now, don't get me wrong, we've got Tanya, and Tanya is absolutely lovely!
But Bridget was cute and cool and I would've love if they'd kept her.

I can't remember the beginning of AAT2 right now. Considering they had an anti-cat wall in AAT4, I'm not sure if it's likely they'd leave Manhattan at all...but I guess it could work some way.
Like...there are ways in through the wall. Cat R. Waul could've managed that somehow.
But I admit this might be the biggest problem.
I gotta watch the beginning of AAT2 again to think about this a bit more.

Fievel's and Tanya's age stays consistent between the movies, which would make her quite too young to work/dance in a Saloon, but it's only a temporary thing until the end of the movie.
Tony and Bridget are together / romantically involved.

one thing: Tony flirting with the girl in AAT3 and Bridget being absent in AAT3 and AAT4.
I personally am fine to just take it as Bridget with busy with a job on her own, even Tony got two, and, well, he's just a flirty teenager who, for a moment of having a crush, was crushing a bit on a second girl. Nothing really happens in the end, so, yeah.
So, yeah, putting all that together, my personal headcanon could be:

AAT4 already showed that she had a childish crush on an adult. AAT3 and 4 state she considers her life boring and wants adventures, as well.A child wanting to be a Saloon singer is equally as "age inappropriate" but yet as much of a possible dream as her crush on an adult in AAT4.
It's some playful, childish idea that just happens to work out for a while because I guess cats don't care about mice's age!

So, AAT2 is the only one with an age discrepancy between Fievel and Tanya, but only if you take the official statements.
I personally think all four movies can kinda work, if you consider AAT 2 to play AFTER AAT4.
Sure, Fievel says that he dreamed he was in the Wild West and all, but this does not necessarily mean AAT2. I'm sure he dreamed to be a gunslinger more than once!
This, of course, leaves why Tanya is suddenly older in AAT2.

After I watched all four "An American Tail" movies now, I'm gonna give my take on the whole "3 retcons 2" thing and how I'll work with it. This will obviously contain light spoilers for movies 2 - 4 and of course it's just silly fan discussion, I know this is not the canon intended way, I'm just having fun with theories that others have done 25 years ago after all movies were already out. 😁

Some of the things I read online were strange, so, we shall see!

I was surprised by "An American Tail (3) - The Treasure of Manhattan Island".
At first it was a bit "eh" like I expected. Lower model details, especially on background characters, several parts retconned and no heavily emotional scenes like in the first 2 movies.
BUT:
Not only does Tanya finally get SOME action on her own, but more importantly, the premise:Rich factory owners, defended by fascist cops, instigating racial hate to distract poor workers from how they're abused.

First off, "The Iron Giant".
I haven't seen it so far, but it seems to have quite some fans, so, what I heard from it is cool!The others, which I'm a bit afraid about, are movie 3 and 4 of "An American Tail".
I really like the first two movies and thus I'm even more afraid that more direct-to-videos releases screw it up
BUT I'll see soon and even if they're bad, I'm still gonna love the first two! ♥️

The fact they're all from a Steven Spielberg production is curious, but coincidental.

So, yeah, watch it, rewatch it, it's a Don Bluth movie and thus awesome!

As I mentioned it before, I just re-watched "An American Tail: Fievel goes West".
It's a less emotional movie to me than the first one, and it's a pity Don Bluth wasn't involved, but its still a very nice one!I love that lovely Tanya has a bigger role.
