Websites have a new way to #spy on visitors: #analyzing their #SSD activity

The #attack that #FROST uses is known as a contention side channel, which measures the interaction of various processes all using (or competing for) a given resource. By measuring the timing of certain I/O (input-output) operations of the SSD a #visitor is using, the researchers were able to determine the #websites open in other tabs—even on other browsers—and the apps that were open on the visitor’s device. FROST requires no interaction from the visitor other than opening the site hosting the attack.

Funny — the journalists who spoke up said McDaniel’s departure was required to

A few ideas:
• Create a #mission #statement that affirms your goals are telling the #truth and defending #democracy, which protects the First Amendment — not fake balance. • #Stop #pretending four-times-indicted former president Donald Trump and his movement are presenting #alternative “#policies” as a normal party would. They are fighting for an alternate system: authoritarianism. • Politicians’ outright #lies must be identified, not just labeled as their “response” or “position.” • Instead of obsessing over #polls, devote extensive coverage to #analyzing the Heritage Foundation’s “#Project2025” and Trump’s #fascist #agenda. My #sociology #seminar will be #archiving and #analyzing #data from a #survey of #whistleblowers this semester. I'll take it as a good sign for the data's interest level that the special collections team spent half our meeting paging through paper surveys shouting out new types of #government or #corporate malfeasance they were reading about: "Use of a government dump truck for private business!" "$60,000 of personal travel in postal vehicles!" etc.

Our sons work in Tokyo, so we've been seeing our 3/4 #Japanese granddaughter every few months and I'm the only source of #English that's not canned. Some research shows three types of #babies' dispositions: friendly, cautious, & cranky types. Our granddaughter is cautious, so I work hard to have #rapport with her. My appearance & #language are different, so #cognitive load could be an issue. But finally, playing with her at age 2, soon she was literally jumping for joy. I also feel that, providing #scaffolding with #gestures & actions in a #natural #context, she's #listening & #analyzing what I'm saying. Again, what I've read about first language or bilingual #acquisition leaps off the page into real life.
