  1. @karlauerbach @ai6yr

Imagine getting to the point in #American #Healthcare where #anaesthesiology is optional, and people decline it because they need the operation but can't afford much. And the doctors going ahead without anaesthesiology because they want to get paid, know the operation is necessary, and understand the patient's predicament

Which sounds like a #dystopian medieval torture routine

    And it is

And yet considering the nature of American Healthcare it sounds entirely plausible

  2. By Nose Coloured Glasses - Stavros Prineas @nosecglasses, an anaesthetist on Twitter

"My good deed for the week. A 🧵

Halfway through my endo list yesterday the DSU nurse came in.
“The last patient's arrived with his mother. He’s autistic and says he gets seizures when he is overstimulated.” She handed me his file. “There’s a letter from the neurologist”.

  3. When anaesthetists talk about regional anaesthesia, do they mean sending an entire postal code to sleep? 🧐

  4. I am reminded by @DataDrivenMD's thread about #anaesthesiology and #bicycling of the most stereotypical bit of #German humour I was exposed to.
My first summer in Germany I got into a bike accident. I moved over to let someone pass on a bike path, and my front tire left the pavement. This was on a downhill at about 30km/h. I was wearing a helmet, and did a pretty good forward roll and so only ended up injuring my wrists.

So are we at the stage where there is an #anaesthetic / #anaesthesiology Mastodon presence? Or any #HumanFactors #ergonomics #patientSafety?
I guess the inherent conservatism of the medical world might mean that they’re still mostly over at Twitter.

  6. @AICjournal Thanks for publishing my paper!

And thanks to the inspiring women #anaesthetists who came before me and inspired this paper.

I’m very grateful for all the support I had in my leadership journey and keen to support the next generation. Working with the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, ANZCA and SPANZA. Watch this space!
