That big bird could carry things nothing else could, and I'm sad I never saw it.

Na Vianoce som dostal model legendárneho lietadla Antonov An-225 "Mrija" (Sen). Jednalo sa o najväčšie dopravné lietadlo sveta, bohužiaľ len do momentu, kedy rusácke svine vykročili na územie Ukrajiny, a počas prvých hodín invázie tento krásny stroj nenávratne zničili. Že bol veľký som vedel, ale sám som bol prekvapený ako moc. Skoro sa mi nevliezol na poličku a Concorde, ktorý nám v rovnakej mierke (1:400) vedľa neho vyzerá ako malý business jet :)

I just ran across an unlabeled link to a LiveJournal page in my archives. I don't know what it used to be, but today it's a large set of the best photos I've ever seen of the An-225 Mriya, inside and out.
(In other news: LiveJournal is now all Russian..?)
Mriya was the world's largest aircraft—a six-engined monster built to carry the Russian Buran space shuttle. It was destroyed in Kyiv last year in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Definisjonen på skjønnhet, verdighet, eleganse og styrke: #An-225 Mrija. Jeg ble forelsket i henne ved første blikk. Hun var enorm og eterisk. Bokstavelig talt, luftens største dronning - med en fantastisk stemme i tillegg.
Nesten utrolig hva som hun var i stand til å gjøre!

A friend of a friend had a rare opportunity to visit Hostomel (Antonov) airport in Ukraine and see with their own eyes the current state of the legendary An-225 "Mriya" and An-124 "Ruslan" aircraft and the extent of the damage they suffered during the Russian invasion.

Pity that MSFS still simulates max four identical engines, so this six-engine aircraft is modelled as having two engines, from the control point of view. (The 3D model of course has all six.) Odd that they don't increase that arbitrary low limit. Many fascinating historical and current aircraft have more than four engines. XB-70: 6, B-52: 8, Do.X: 12 (!). Some even had multiple types of engines (jet and prop) (B-36).

Proceeds will go to rebuilding an actual AN-225 aircraft after the only existing example was destroyed by Russian attacks. Reportedly this should be possible mostly using existing parts and spares.

Earlier this week, @AntonovCompany confirmed design work has begun on a new #AN225. The first (and only) was destroyed in the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
