Do I track your submissions? If so, why or why not?I track my submissions using a spreadsheet, and try to get them back out when/if they're rejected.
I also try to keep the updated/inputed at the submissions grinder, but I'm less good at that. Sharing info on the grinder helps the community at large keep track of how long various markets are taking to respond, which helps people decide where to submit. So use the grinder if you can , please.

In 2021, I got a nice personal #rejection for a #shortstory It said all sorts of nice things and asked me to send them other stories. A year later I sent another story, and today got the same response, word for word.
It's a form rejection made to sound like a personal one.
I've gotten a lot of rejections and have never seen that.
Annoying.

Submission number two for the day. This one also has had several third round near misses and a few lovely and encouraging personalized rejections. It's a stranger piece, though. Written in the 2nd person POV of a woman whose consciousness must remain in the present. Thinking about her future or (especially) her past endangers her ability to wield quantum magic.

Another day, another short story submission. This particular piece has had two near misses, two personalized rejections, and two form rejections but has yet to land anywhere. With so many markets posted on The Grinder, though, I remain hopeful that it will find a home.

Exciting news today: a piece I wrote for a workshop this summer has been accepted to 3Elements Review!
This is the fifth venue I'd sent the story to -- I was thinking of shelving it before I saw the set of "elements" (words) they posted and realized they fit my story almost exactly.
Moral: never shelve a story.... there's always a home for it somewhere.
It comes out in February, and I can't wait to share it with you all!
