Me, this morning: I'm struggling with those #AmstradCPC frame timings, the code I write doesn't work the first time, that's a bad sign because it shows I don't understand what's going on.
Me, early afternoon: Wait, now I get it, it all makes sense, and I can get my test code to do exactly what I want right away.
Me, late afternoon after a nap: OK, now I can try to understand the rupture technique (which is on the very advanced side of things).
OK, not so fast, maybe!

Diving back into code. I'm gonna try to do some line-by-line palette changes.
On the CPC, border is a separate palette entry, such that effects that span the border and main graphics need to change 2 palette entries... but I might set the CRTC 6845 to overscan horizontally, in which case I don't need to worry about the border for the part that has an actual display.
