  1. @TheBreadmonkey Excellent work, Ben. You'll be making an #AmperSand before you know it!

  2. Courtesy of Wifebot, a record of me trying to get some photos before the tide reclaimed the #AmperSand!

  3. An #AmperSand made in Cockenzie, yesterday.

A bit of a rush job, this one, as the tide came in quicker than I'd expected! It probably lasted less than fifteen minutes, once I'd completed it. I rather like seeing them fade away, like this.

  4. Thank you for your attention to the previous circle earlier, citizens. Your regular programming now resumes, with a couple of seaglass AmperSands from Cockenzie, earlier today.

    The collection continues to grow!

  5. I rather miscalculated my first #AmperSand of the year. Thought I had maybe half an hour, but instead the tide was reclaiming it within about five minutes!

  6. Marget Larsen, Joseph Magnin holiday box, 1963.

One of two gift boxes in our collection from the hip San Francisco mid-century department store, Joseph Magnin. As Sean Adams wrote for Design Observer, Larsen’s “maverick approach defied traditional and banal Christmas iconography, turning to geometry and a vibrant California palette. This simple shift—the rejection of established conventions—was and is a historically San Francisco approach.”

  7. ...And, as ever, previous #AmperSand efforts on show over on Flickr:

And yeah, I'll say it: Hooray for #Flickr! Still the best place to share and store your pictures online, I reckon.

  8. Yesterday's #AmperSand, in one of our old favourite haunts, Cockenzie.

Besides always making these below the high tide line, today I also include evidence of another main method I use for ensuring the work is ephemeral in nature: a helpful ChildBot!

  9. Some of you may know that when exploring beaches I like to gather things I find and arrange an #AmperSand. Here are some examples.

But you may not be aware that I also worry about it - a little bit - every time. Why do I worry? Here's a good summary, from BoingBoing:

    boingboing.net/2025/11/05/plea

Basically, rocks / shells / sand / etc are possibly archaeology or possibly habitats, and anything you leave visible is a mark on a (presumably natural) environment which others might not appreciate.

  10. Some weather out there today, so some alternative #ampersand materials were necessary.

  11. Happily working away at an #AmperSand on a sunny beach today, and somebody stopped me to say hello. They already knew my name and they already liked my work!

    Bloomin FAME, that is!

…Now I know how Taylor Swift must feel.

  12. I was suspicious of the story in the video about "ampersand" coming from the phrase "and, per se, and" -- it sounds like folk etymology -- but Wikipedia also cites it as the word's origin.

Which of course makes me think of the rather sweet TMBG song "Ampersand":

  13. September 8 is World Ampersand Day!

    &

Now, I admit I only learned about the existence of this ever-so-important celebration last week, but you'd better believe we observe it in this house!

So here's an ampersand from yesterday, this time made at Skateraw Harbour in East Lothian.

  14. Here was my own throwing action - far from professional quality!! 😆 #Easdale #StoneSkimming #ampersand

  15. So the stone skimming world championships were held yesterday in #Easdale. I must go spectate some time - it’s such a wonderful place, and the competition looks brilliant.

    stoneskimming.com

Not much coverage of this year’s competition online just yet - I think the party is pretty serious!

We visited Easdale earlier this year, and it’s wonderful. Gorgeous all on its own, and the #StoneSkimming is heavenly! I may perhaps have added an #ampersand to the hallowed skimming spot…

  16. I’ve learnt that this coming Monday will be World #Ampersand Day!

  17. Faszinierend! Wie cool: ein Designer hat viele #Ampersand (kaufmännisches „Und“) zusammengelegt, aus Steinen und Sand und Muscheln und so weiter. Hammer! flickr.com/photos/davemorris/a

  19. > "They were so aggressive in their text!"

    < "Why, what'd they do?"

    > "They used an ellipsis!"

Real conversation. I'm looking around for Alan Funt. I can't even imagine their reaction if it had been an octothorpe. [1]

[1] Why yes, Firefox spellchecker, when I typed "octothorpe" I clearly really meant to type "#clotheshorse".

  24. Yay the #model selector option #querystring now works

    https://alceawis.de/modelsmine.html?option=2024|08|04_-_MaronKusakabe

Now I can link to whichever model I want however .

    #Protip :
    Don't use "/" or "\" in a querystring.
    & are difficult too
