  6. Okay, American Arcadia gets a wee bit confused if you backtrack near the end. Hard to know if any of this is due to running via Proton on Steam Deck, but I went back to see a flickering door, and now there's weird warping to a ladder and the same transition issue. But I'm almost done. #AmericanArcadia

  8. I managed to miss a transition trigger somehow, so it just let me climb up a series of long ladders for a while, until one went through the floor, the top curved over onto nothing. I fell over, and walked through some decorations on the other side. Stuck, I wiggled down the side... until I fell down a little too far, into the void and could walk around down there, whoops. To be fair, it was the first time I hit a glitch quite like this in the game, and it was kind of neat. Restarted from Checkpoint and it transitioned properly the moment I got on the ladder. #AmericanArcadia #gaming #glitch

  11. I'm really enjoying American Arcadia so far, but it needs the ability to skip cutscenes, especially since a couple times on my Steam Deck it's gone to play a transitional cutscene and got stuck. Resetting me puts it back before some of the longer scenes sometimes. "Let's take a look at this image behind me..." #AmericanArcadia #gaming #videogames #steam #steamdeck

  14. Got it. And the store finally noticed I have Call of the Sea, so I got the discounted bundle with American Arcadia too. I watched RTGame's video on it for about 40 minutes then had to stop myself or I was going to spoil everything. #steam #americanarcadia #gaming

  17. CW: Spoilers for American Arcadia

I don't get the praise #AmericanArcadia is getting for its unexpected twists. They establish that it's The Truman Show meets Epcot but with a collaborator helping them escape mere minutes into the game. From that moment forward, you should be able to figure out every loop they're going to try to throw at you immediately whenever anything new is introduced. For subtle clues to work, they need to be more subtle than calling a character Detective Javert and pointing out that he's singing constantly. For twists to be surprising, they can't be the first thing everyone would guess.

If you want a stylized game with an actual surprising twist, go play Bugsnax. It's a few years old so maybe you forgot it and will be surprised again.

  18. Just finished #AmericanArcadia. It's a puzzle platformer from the folks who made Call To The Sea.

Got through it in 5-6 hours. There was a few moments of frustration with the games stealth mechanic, but those moments were few and far between.

Story is really interesting but where it shines for me is in its presentation. It looks wonderful; bright, colourful and very 1970s. That's rare in games.

The game uses TV as a medium, both in critique and as a means to tell its own story is fantastic.
