  1. America’s Suicide Pact

America’s suicidal march began long before Donald Trump. Trump and the buffoons around him are the inevitable final chapter of the decaying empire. ~ Chris Hedges, May 08, 2026

  2. Nick Bryant had this comment about #AmericanExceptionalism: "Acts of political violence are fast becoming as much a feature of American life as school shootings. They set apart the United States."

I understand where you come from. But...as a person from the so called Global South, ex-3rd world, our experience is that regardless of who is in charge, democrats or republicans, the internal concept of the US of what democracy is/was was never applicable for us. I can only hope whatever is left of your democracy survives and gets stronger to be really relevant to the rest of the world

  4. Rubio Tells Iran Invest in People—But U.S. Military Spending Exposes Hypocrisy

Rubio says Iran should invest in its people, but U.S. military spending vs healthcare reveals deep hypocrisy and misplaced moral authority.

  5. @randahl Unfortunately, too many Americans have been drugged with the toxic brew of #AmericanExceptionalism and don't really grasp that our actions have consequences.

  6. 10. Sad to say, many of those easily distracted Americans devoid of any knowledge of history and ready to march to the drumbeat of war are younger Americans whose futures — along with the futures of their children — depend on knowing better and doing better. Not giving heart, mind, and soul over to maleficent charlatans who promise the world but deliver only misery and lawlessness.

  7. 9. Because those millions of Americans are devoid of any knowledge of history and are easily distracted and manipulated, so that with this new bright and shiny object in front of them, they'll forget about rising prices, skyrocketing health insurance costs, the coverup of sexual abuse of minors by powerful men named in the Epstein files, Jack Smith's testimony indicting the sitting president for staging an insurrection.

  8. 8. And it's exactly those millions of Americans who are always ready at the drop of a hat to march to the drumbeat of war, any war, that "we" declare whom the Trump administration is counting on to energize and distract now with this unlawful invasion of Venezuela.

  9. 7. "We" don't learn because we don't want to learn, don't intend to learn. Because "we" don't really value a large inclusive we at all, but only one that represents our tight, closed, knowledge-lite circles….

  10. It's the we that refuses to learn from the history of the Vietnam War and how the lies told by the US government to lead us into that war and keep us there caused so many needless deaths of both Vietnamese and Americans, or from the similar lie-based wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  11. 5. This "we" is the we of war, of the drumbeat of war. This "we" is the we of American exceptionalism, of we're bigger and better than anyone else.

    6. This "we" is the we of abysmal ignorance, of the ignorance of many Americans who refuse to learn even from recent history.

  12. 3. Ironically, a large number of those same Americans acknowledge no "we" at all when it comes to their everyday non-wartime dealing with other Americans. They identify only with their tight little circles and ignore or exclude everyone beyond those circles.

    4. So what is this "we" that obviously doesn't represent a "we" at all?

  13. 1. As soon as news of Trump's invasion of Venezuela hit, I watched social media light up with statements about how "we" had invaded Venezuela.

    2. This the default "we" that always emerges immediately when "we" are at war: for many Americans, if it's a war, it's "our" war. No more questions asked…. "We" stand together.

  14. 1 We’ve all been far too indoctrinated in the myths of #AmericanExceptionalism by their ubiquitous and immensely powerful popular cultural industry. It’s making the current degradation of their country and its institutions more traumatic than it should be. 🧵

  15. Traditionally America has always based it's reputation for "excellence" on the accomplishments of it's greatest achievers and the ability of the top few to excel or become super wealthy while other countries, like the Nordic countries, were more concerned for the welfare of the average citizen/resident.

  16. "The Trump administration recently published the US National Security Strategy. It’s an extremely important document. It’s an official outline of US priorities in the world, normally published only once every Presidental term. But this time, it’s published at a time of high geopolitical tensions, making it perhaps the most important National Security Strategy this century.

What struck me as most notable with the report is its profound irony. It denounces three decades of American attempts at global domination while articulating a vision of American supremacy more explicit, unapologetic, and comprehensive than perhaps any strategy document since the early Cold War. The strategy condemns the hubris of post-1991 efforts at “permanent American domination of the entire world,” yet it unabashedly demands exclusive preeminence in Latin America, military supremacy throughout the Indo-Pacific, control over critical supply chains, and the right to dictate terms to allies on defence spending and trade policy.

This is not a strategy of restraint or humility. It is suffused with American exceptionalism, asserting that the United States must remain “the world’s strongest, richest, most powerful, and most successful country for decades to come.”"

  17. @QasimRashid This ⬆️ is #AmericanCarnage2.0 , which was easily anticipated by anybody who experienced #AmericanCarnage 1.0 and read #Project2025 before the #2024election. 🤷🏻‍♂️

#Americans are slowly realizing that there is no such thing as #AmericanExceptionalism.

  18. @TheBulwark @the-bulwark-online-TheBulwark Like #Canada , #NATO now has #ElbowsUp and the #BoycottUSA movement is spreading rapidly.

What IS at an end is the MYTH of #AmericanExceptionalism. It was always a myth, but even that is dead ☠️ now.

The #TrumpEffect is the opposite of the Meidas Touch (everything #Trump touches turns to 💩), but the end result is the same; tragedy.

  19. @jon #US #politics posts seem to be the ones most often left untagged, which is super annoying for those of us who aren't American and are sick of the constant torrent. Is it a manifestation of #AmericanExceptionalism? The assumption that everyone is either another American or needs to be constantly in the know about US #news?

  20. @treleanor

Still puzzling how any President could be oersonally in charge of a project that is all of America's.

Should there not be a politically independent authority in charge of the White House as a building.

  21. One thing about government is it never shuts down.

Second thing, there always has to be an exception..
