We Read Banned Books – Description from YouTube…

Since 2021, dozens of states have moved to introduce and pass classroom censorship bills that restrict students and teachers from discussing race, gender, and sexual orientation in public schools. At the same time, politicians and school boards are making moves to ban books — predominately those by Black and LGBTQ authors — from public schools and libraries. We partnered with some of our favorite artists to read books that have been banned around the country, because everyone has a First Amendment right to learn and read free from censorship or discrimination. To learn more about book bans and how to combat classroom censorship, go to https://www.aclu.org/rtl-resources

  4. Millions Turn Out for October 18 ‘No Kings’ Protests Across U.S.

[features eyewitness reports from various cities by participants]

    from #WorldOutlook
    Oct. 20, 2025

More than 7 million people turned out for the #NoKings #protests in about 2,700 cities and towns in all 50 #US states on October 18, 2025. These numbers are based on reports from the organizers and media across the country.

The main sponsors included the liberal group #Indivisible, the #AmericanCivilLibertiesUnion, and hundreds of other national and local organizations.

Some of the largest actions took place in Chicago (250,000), Washington, D.C. (200,000), New York City (where estimates ranged between 100,000 and more than 300,000), and Boston (125,000). Thousands marched in many cities in the South, including Dallas and Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Birmingham, Alabama; and Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina.

  5. #US cities to resist Trump’s crackdown on dissent with #NoKings protests: ‘We will not be bullied’

More than 200 organizations are signed on as partners for the 18 October protests; none have dropped off for fear of a Trump backlash, Levin said. The #AmericanCivilLibertiesUnion, the civil rights group, is a partner, as is advocacy group Public Citizen. #Unions including the American Federation of Teachers and SEIU are in the coalition. The new protest movement #50501, which began earlier this year as a call for protests in all 50 states on a single day, is also a partner. Other partners include the Human Rights Campaign, MoveOn, United We Dream, the League of Conservation Voters, Common Defense and more.

  7. ICE Wants to Build Out a 24/7 Social Media Surveillance Team

Documents show that ICE plans to hire dozens of contractors to scan X, Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms to target people for #deportation.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center has similarly sued #ICE, calling its reliance on data brokers a “significant threat to privacy and liberty.” The #AmericanCivilLibertiesUnion has argued that buying bulk datasets—such as smartphone location trails gathered from ordinary apps—helps ICE sidestep warrant requirements and helps it pull in vast amounts of data with no clear link to its enforcement mandate.

The newly proposed social media program is only the latest in a string of #surveillance contracts ICE has pursued over the past few years.
