#AmateurLuthier Saturday... my #SummerProject (steel string acoustic) progresses slowly. Doing the top bracing which has a lot of influence on the final sound of the guitar. But I'm not really 100% on exactly how. I suspect I know too much about frequency analysis and not enough about guitars as most explanations generate more questions in my mind.

In a more positive frame this is what i found time for on the weekend… rosette for #nextguitar - depending on the light, different bits of paua light up… it’s accidentally quite nice.

Last summer's #SummerProject finished enough to play. Its a baritone so tuned down about 5 semitones. It is very difficult to resist the temptation to get stuck into Jesus and Mary Chain/Sunn O))) territory but it does sound very nice with a cleaner sound. I've not done a whammy bar before - that is also difficult to resist 😃
Once I've played it in a bit I may post some sounds. 🎸

I'd hoped to get further along in this year's #SummerGuitarProject but various things way-laid me and I head to sea for 2 months 😲 in a couple of days. So it is what it is... it will be a #baritone with NZ made pickups and timber partly from recycled instrument boxes 😉 #AmateurLuthier #Recycling

Finally finished my #lastsummer project… #AmateurLuthier - wow paduak (the timber for back n sides) is amazing- and smells so sweet. It’s very red but apparently this is supposed to ease into a darker shade.
just in time as the planning in my head for the next one is getting loud.

Well the local tūī are still providing mixed reviews of progress of #SummerProject. Nevertheless the top plate is done and now I can start on the bracing which is lots of fun but I'm pretty clueless as to how to connect "doing a neat job" to influencing how it will ultimately sound despite (possibly because of) those undergrad courses in vibration theory. #AmateurLuthier #Guitar #Lutherie
