  1. TBPH, I'm starting to think I may be trying to cram too much plot into this book.

Like, I need to admit that I can't have roughly as many plot beats as _The Lord of the Rings_ did in only 100,000 words.

Today, when my brain is really working at sub-par capacity, it becomes really obvious, as I can't figure out how to arrange things and fit them together.

I'm going to have to chop *immense* amounts of stuff when I revise from 1st to 2nd draft.

  2. #ScribesAndMakers 15 when I use a semicolon

In general, it's my opinion that punctuation marks are there for a reason and using them in their whole variety helps your text convey not only physical tone but also more broadly the spirit of the text.

However, I rarely end up using the semicolon in particular—at least in fiction. It's just that most of the time, I feel, dashes and colons work better.

  3. A special thanks to Nancy Christie for having me as a guest on her excellent podcast “Living the Writing Life,” where I talk about protecting yourself against book marketing scams.
