From the late 1990s for this week's #ThrowbackThursday this is the chairlift ride near The Needles and Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight. I and my then-girlfriend (now wife) had taken the hovercraft across to the island to meet up with her parents who were spending a week there on holiday. A few of the typical tourist activities then took place including this somewhat rickety ride over the cliff.

Now that we've reached the Winter Solstice the light is returning! Longer daylight hours are on their way!

This image of #TheNeedles on the #IsleofWight was taken by my husband in late December last year. The sun is at it's most southerly point, providing the opportunity to capture the Needles in silhouette, whilst shining it's beautiful light on #AlumBay

This is a very old shot - I reckon from about 16 years ago, taken by my husband at #AlumBay on the #IsleofWight.

This beach is famous for the #ColouredSands in the cliffs which is often made into tourist souvenirs. #TheNeedles are at the other end of the beach.

It took quite a few attempts to capture the splashing of the wave, but as this was taken on a very hot day that was no hardship, despite getting soaked! #AvailableLight #Fotomontag
