  1. I did some research on #Altos Germany and #AltosChat a few years ago and found many interesting legal documents, catalogues, ads, #usenet posts, and mentions in #Phrack. I also found two locations where the althh server might once have been housed. In one, a seemingly related company still exists. I believe I've also tracked down the #sysop, who now appears to be working in aviation. One day I'll make some phone calls, finish research, and write a proper article on the history of Altos Chat!

    #Altos mentioned here, another important company from the era of "The Net Before the Web" largely forgotten now – were it not for #hacker lore! Altos housed the legendary #AltosChat in one of their overseas offices, where many infamous #hackers of the late 80s and early 90s regularly met. The #sysop not only tolerated them but became friends with them. It survived the #Acer merger and, looking at #UUCP maps from the 90s, beyond that (with rather dubious hosting arrangements it seems ;-))
