I decided that I wanted to learn to play bass recorder. Since I can't even play a tenor recorder properly (my fingers don't stretch far enough to cover the holes properly), a real bass is out of the question. Alto recorders, however, are in the same key as bass recorders. So I got myself a second alto recorder that I can pretend is a bass.

Lesson number one, of course, is that the sharps and flats are not in the same place in the bass clef as they are in the treble clef.

I went through some of my sheet music last night to try and find something to play on my alto recorder that isn't from Del's Dance Book, and found nothing that wasn't out of range of the instrument.

If I'm going to play jazz, I'm going to have to relearn a C tuned instrument.
