So an office update broke half of our #altium installations at work. In case you’re having the same issue, we got it fixed by installing ms access redistributable 2016 on the affected workstations. Premium software!

Для понимания меня, наверно нужно знать мой путь разработчика. Закончен университет Имени Ярослава Мудрого в Великом Новгороде по специальности радиотехника . Практика в КБ Планета, диплом считыватель R-FID меток . защита на 4, кажется никто не понял с моих слов сути устройства и каков был мой вклад. первая работа: 2010 год сентябрь трудоустройство в НПК СПП в отдел систем видеорегистрации мы делали видеорегистраторы полетной информации для Сухих и других крутых КБ дальше меня после 9ти лет стажа и отсутствия перспектив из-за карьерных косяков закинуло в Diakont в 2020 году мы переехали с женой под рождение сына в Алмазово но это отдельная история... Началась разработка средств доставки и диагностики бесконтактным методом ЭМА и другими... Роботы были разные, все внутритрубной диагностики. Самый пик и интерес был робот для Малазийцев в проекте стоимостью в 300+ мультов русских. И даже некоторые из команды побывали в Куала-Лумпур, но не я... Давай поподробнее...

made a new release of my JLCPCB Altium libraries.

this new release contains 55451 resistors, 15361 capacitors, 5047 inductors, and a brand new addition: 2384 ferrite beads.

I also fixed an issue where inductors had their category labelled incorrectly and their inductance erroneously listed in the capacitance field.

I made a script that extracts multilayer board stackups from JLCPCB's API, for every layer count, board thickness, and copper weight option.

it translates the raw API data into a clean normalised JSON format, and also into Altium stackup files. the normalised JSON should be easy to consume if you want to build stackups for other EDA tools.

everything is pretty well documented, so it should be easy to modify and update to your needs.

By migrating to a Database library, my time in #Altium has shifted from making boards to maintaining libraries.. is this normal?

Changing Altium's default colours to KiCad’s defaults brings joys to the eyes. Add 30% transparency to polygons for the final touch: view configurations → view options tab → object visibility.

#Altium is instituting a $500/user/year fee for Altium 365 Workspaces. My employer can afford it, and the sharing and version control features are nice, but I'm afraid Altium will just keep finding more existing features to charge fees for. I'm wondering it makes sense for a large org to consider #kicad.

@timonsku @macegr I like #Altium, but I generally get the feeling they constantly look for things they can cripple and offer to enable for more money.

Altium allows you to select the pin function visible on the schematic. Is this a new change or has it always been there?

Now my only wish is to be able to easily modify the symbols locally. Drag some pins around. Stretch or shrink the box.

By and large, I do like #Altium, but I cannot fathom why it hasn't been a priority to fix the three seconds of glitching/redrawing/reorganizing of everything that takes places every time you move between the #PCB view and the #schematic view.

Or do everyone else have workflows where they don't need to refer to the schematics while placing the components?

I recently got email from an account manager (what us simpletons call a "salesperson") with #Altium , an #ElectronicDesignAutomation ( #EDA ) software company that I bought a rather expensive mid-range product from about 10 years ago.

I've never been able to use #AltiumDesigner without it crashing.

(I believe the root of problem is that the product is built upon the Delphi language and run-time executable, which appears to be an unsupported zombie product of the late compiler maker #Borland .)

The person suggested that I buy a software maintenance subscription (in addition to what I've already spent on a perpetual license) so that I may upgrade to the latest version. Based on my past experience with Altium, I'm not confident that this will fix my problem, or be more productive than literally flushing hundred-dollar bills down the toilet.

Lately I've been warming up to #KiCAD and I expect to make my next #PrintedCircuitBoards with it. It's a pretty intuitive tool (with a few quirks so far, all tolerable).

I think I’ve finally graduated from EasyEDA and considering Altium or KiCAD. The latter is free, runs on MacOS, but the former seems way more advanced and professional. Anyone have any opinions (or tried running Altium on Parallels)?
