The Amanda Emblem Experiment is back with another fine piece of sonic artistry that will immediately appeal to anyone who’s in search of soulful, hearty, and meaningful music. Arriving after “The Wood,” a marvelous full-length album released last year, “Ancient Dingo” is the first piece of work in 2026, showcasing Amanda Emblem’s tremendous ideas, creativity, talent, experience, and musicianship from scratch to finish. If you’ve followed her work before, then you already know that her music always evolves, so that’s the case with this particular composition as well. Cowritten by Amanda and harmonica flutist Kelly King, “Ancient Dingo” is about understanding the behaviour and bad reputation of the Australian dingo. Sonically, the artist employs a singer-songwriter aesthetic by blending various approaches, techniques, and styles with fundamental elements borrowed from alternative folk, alternative rock, and alt-pop, aiming to construct a luxuriant sonic imagery that perfectly complements the lyrical theme. However, beneath you may find other music genres, such as indie rock, soft rock, and acoustic rock, lurking around and elevating this composition to an entirely new level. With all these genres in her sonic arsenal, Amanda Emblem constructs such a beautiful atmosphere where each vocal harmony, chord progression, bassline, and rhythmic pattern wraps around your listening apparatus and refuses to let go long after the last notes and beats end.

Each layer, element, detail, and nuance has its place and purpose here, building a perfect sonic universe worth revisiting over and over again. The way guitars work throughout the entire composition is nearly mindblowing. You’ll immediately notice how the interplay between acoustic and electric guitars acts as a backdrop that emphasizes Emblem’s enchanting vocal harmonies. On one side, you have calm, soothing, relaxing, and ethereal chord progressions delivered on acoustic guitar, while the other brings subtly distorted riffs and clean staccato upstrokes on the upbeat, played with a clean, bright tone. You may notice how barely hearable chorus effect transforms those riffs and chord progression, giving them a completely new dimension that works flawlessly in this song. Besides these guitar works, you’ll also hear how the main theme performed on the harmonica spices things up during the particular segments, while the additional chord progressions and ambient pads delivered on keyboards add a touch of complexity to an already intricate song structure. All these orchestrations indicate that we’re dealing with a wise, creative, skillful singer-songwriter whose songwriting and composing abilities stand out from the remainder of the alt-folk and folk rock scene.
Amanda Emblem’s beautiful vocal performance shines in the limelight here, making “Ancient Dingo” such a soulful, emotional, meaningful, and fascinating sonic experience. Her calm, soothing, relaxing yet subtly high-pitched voice elevates each segment to new heights, commands attention, and serves as a guide on this epic sonic journey. You’ll notice how she seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes without overwhelming the instrumentation while delivering more than necessary emotional depth through poetic, storytelling lyricism. Beneath all these beautiful vocal harmonies, you’ll notice how the additional sing-alongs, back vocals, and other vocal layers give more depth, further improving the listening experience. Like the instrumental performances, her voice acts as an additional layer of melodies that immensely elevates the ambiance. Besides all those luxuriant orchestrations delivered via guitars, keys, and harmonica, you’ll hear those subtle yet vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines, rumbling beneath the mentioned instrumentations and delivering more than necessary heftiness, deepness, and clearness to this song. Of course, the bass guitars also serve as a binding element between all those orchestrations and rhythmic patterns while simultaneously contributing groove, depth, and detail. In the meantime, the moderate rhythmic patterns based upon tastefully arranged, flawlessly performed, and well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keep everything in line while dictating groove and depth. Every element has its place and purpose here, offering you a fascinating listening experience worth revisiting everytime you crave a perfect alt-folk and soft rock music.
