    "use of extreme stealth"

    Location:
Earth ("present day early C21st" and places in the Future and Past) and somewhere in the space between Earth and Proxima (C50th)

    Teams:
the Papal Mainframe Silence vs the Glyph

    Players:
the Papal Mainframe's Confessors aka Silents vs the Glyph

    Comparison:

The Silents (Dr Who, 2011) (wiki)

The Silents are perceived only while being viewed, and they are instantly forgotten once a viewer looks away.
Silents are members of the religious order known as the Church of the Papal Mainframe, being genetically engineered by the Church to serve as confessional priests, with their memory erasing abilities incorporated so that confessors forget they ever confessed in the first place.

    quango-note:
Within the series, it is heavily implied that there is a similar Observer Effect as was "witnessed" with the Weeping Angels, in that recording devices are also affected by them -- Weeping Angels can transfer through and even replicate through or "possess" electronic devices, while a recording of a Silent in any format will fade after a few moments.
Despite the problem of signal deterioration that media-fading implies, a signal was encoded in an electronic format that would be distributed for all-time-eternal following July 1969 despite this conflicting with sequences in the story due to Steven Moffat
    Quantum Quantum QUANTUM Quantum Quantum.
Anyway, the Silent are a brilliant idea unlike any other ever ...

The Glyph (the Ballad of Halo Jones, book 2, 1985)

The Glyph was a person who took advantage of Fiftieth Century Earth's medical technology to re-mould his-or-her self's body 47 (forty-seven) times unable to find satisfaction in either gender identity.
The technology is not gone into in detail but appears to have eighty-six'd and had an erasing effect on distinctive physical and genetic characteristics which left the Glyph without a distinct appearance or personality causing people, animals and electronic devices to be unable to register "their" presence most of the time.
During the period when the Glyph was now unable to function in society, "they" managed to travel without needing identity documents, were always capable of feeding themself by taking whatever they wanted and were able to stay in any location wherever they wanted as no one could focus on their existence.
    Sweet!

(You don't blow-up the bridge, you blow-up the road to the bridge. Likewise with powerplants.)

The Stainless Steel Rat Joins the Circus -- chapter 21

He was a good and experienced climber. I would have stopped for breath by this time. He just went at it hand over hand at a steady pace. Reached the junction of the four legs. That should be it. But no, he went on until he appeared to be as high as the cables pendant from their immense insulators. Then he stopped. A dark smudge against the bright metal of the tower.
And seemed to remain there for an awfully long time.
I don’t know much clock time passed before he started back down. Subjective time seemed to last and last. And then I could see that he was moving back down, surely and steadily. He jumped the last few meters, smiling and wiping the grit from his hands.
“A piece of cake. Timed to blow in two hours.”
“We’ll have a front seat for the show.”
    “We will indeed.”

    ...

“Just about time-” Bolivar said when the ball of flame flared out. Changed to dark billows of smoke.
For long moments nothing happened. The copter bumped a bit when the sound of the explosion reached us.
    “Now,” Bolivar said.
And it was going. The top of the tower was bending, falling almost gracefully. Then the giant insulators began to turn and twist, the immense cables stirring and writhing. Falling.
I could see lightning spear out as the falling cables broke, twisting as though in pain. Twisted and fell, faster and faster, followed by the ruined tower. Splashing down into the sea in great furrows of waves that stretched across the width of the channel.

    Camouflaged Hunters

    Location:
Earth, South America and Earth, Wonderland/Underground

    Teams:
    Yautja vs Wonderlanders

    Players:
    Un-named Yautja vs "Cheshire Cat"

    Comparative Incident Summary:

    Alice
A youngwoman journeying across South America during her gap-year was accompanied by a group of other students and low-lifes, when they encountered an example of Smilodon Oscura Ubiquitous.
    No one survived.

    Anna
A child of school-age was journeying across England when she was taken hostage by a group of British Transport Police affiliated MAGA ticket inspectors. Having befriended a lonely teenage extraterrestrial, they worked together to free themselves of the rentier class using stuff that came to hand like the A-Team used to do.
    No one survived.

    "Zapatistas"

    Location:
Historical Mexico, Earth (late C19th & early C20th) and Jupiter penumbra orbit, Earth Solar System (mid C24th)

    Teams:
Emiliano Zapata & Zapatistas (Mexican Revolutionary Force) and Thomas Wade (Halo City "City self-defense force")

    Comparison:

    Zapatistas
Zapatistas armed with conventional weaponry of the time; rifles, explosives, using military and insurgency & counter-insurgency tactics.

    Halo City "City self-defense force"
(General clothing black but with Zapatista style bandoliers holding bullet cartridges.)
Wade: “As I said, the cartridges are basically of ancient design, but the bullets are new. So new, in fact, that they might as well come from the future. The bullet is a superconducting container and the interior is a pure vacuum. A magnetic field suspends a small ball in the middle to prevent it from contacting the bullet’s body. The ball is made of antimatter.”

    Sunita's ... I think that's right ...

    Location:
Earth (C30th) and Earth ("present day")

    Teams:
    Sentient-Weapons vs Binge-Eaters

    Players:
    Suneater vs Galactose

    Comparison:

Suneater (Adventure Comics #352-353 (1967)) (sauce QuangoBrain)
The Suneater is a living-plasma based weapon created by an offshoot of the same race which created the Green Lantern Corps. Its purpose is to annihilate worlds by consuming their number one power source; their sun (... though as Solar Systems usually have at least two suns on average, at least two suneaters would be needed. But I digest ...)
A Suneater was destroyed by a member of the Legion of Superheroes in the Thirtieth Century in a needlessly complicated plot designed to make some guy look like he was making a heroic sacrifice.

Galactose (Fantastic Four #48 (March 1966) (sauce Wiki)
Galactose (/ɡəˈlæktoʊs/, galacto- + -ose, sometimes abbreviated Gal), is a common monosaccharide, i.e. a simple sugar. It is classified as a reducing hexose, more specifically an aldohexose. In terms of structure, it is a C-4 epimer of glucose. A white, water-soluble solid, it is about 80–90% as sweet as glucose and about 65% as sweet as sucrose.
With its intention (to cause everyone in the Universe to get Diabetes!), Galactose is accompanied by the SilverSpoon on his journey through the Universe and often visits his doctor in Manhattan on the planet Earth (very reasonable insurance plan).

    Immortality Drug
    (all wiki sauces, mmm)

Jon Michaud of The New Yorker wrote: "Imagine a substance with the combined worldwide value of cocaine and petroleum and you will have some idea of the power of melange."

    Location:
planet Old North Australia "Norstrilia" and planet Arrakis "Dune"

    Teams:
The Instrumentality of Man (Norstrilia,1964) vs The Landsraad Houses of the Imperium (Dune, 1965)

    Players:
    Norstrilia-Stroon vs Dune-Melange

    Descriptions:

    Stroon
The immensely wealthy planet Old North Australia ("Norstrilia") is the only place in the universe which produces the precious immortality drug "stroon". The Norstrilians cull their young in order to prevent overpopulation, and only those who pass the test of the "Garden of Death" are allowed to enter adulthood.
(QuangoNote: Stroon is harvested from sheep "suffering" from a condition similar and common to a few Instrumentality planets idiopathically causing gigantism in living organisms.)

    Melange
In the series, the most essential and valuable commodity in the universe is melange, a drug that gives the user a longer life span, greater vitality, and heightened awareness. In some humans, the spice can also unlock prescience, a form of precognition based in genetics but made possible by use of the drug in larger dosages. By far the most important of prescience’s functions is that it makes safe and accurate interstellar travel possible. However, melange is also highly addictive, and withdrawal is fatal. Harvesting melange is also hazardous in the extreme, as its only known source is the harsh desert planet Arrakis, where its deposits are guarded by giant sandworms.

    Quango Explanation:
The CIA/FBI/NSA/ETC read Moby Dick and set out to create a custom pro-capital friendly version which would influence 12 to 32 year olds.

    Quango Note:
Both the "Instrumentality" and the "Dune" series can be said to exist before the official publication dates (way before in the case of Instrumentality) as novelisations, so giving the date of pub of the relevant novels is only meant as a guide.

Based out of the Nizari Isma'ili state, which comprised a network of mountain castles in Persia and Syria, they conducted several high-profile assassinations throughout the Levant during the Crusades. The Assassins held a strict subterfuge policy in the region and are believed to have killed hundreds of people who were deemed enemies of their state over the course of 200 years, including other Shias (the Fatimids), as well as Sunnis (the Abbasids and Seljuks) and Christians (the Crusaders) alike ...

    Astrononomical Object Boppers

    Location:
    Veil Nebula and Alderaan System

    Teams:
Earth Spaceship DarkStar in orbit around the sun of the Veil Nebula System and Galactic Empire Death Star 1 near the planet Alderaan in the "Galaxy Far Far away" Galaxy

    Players:
Bomb Number 20 vs the Death Star

    Comparison:

"Armed with Artificial Intelligence Thermostellar Triggering Devices (bombs which can talk and think), the scout ship Dark Star ..."
BombNumber20 appears to be about the size of two or three of the largest size of commercial cargo shipping container laid end to end. The mechanism of detonation is not explained but possibly involves artificially causing a gravitational collapse of "unstable" stars thus leading to a supernova explosion.
Due to managerial ineffectiveness and a series of issues with the ship's crew, pets and systems, BombNumber20 prematurely detonates with no blame to be apportioned on it for this incident.
-- report of the Independent Artificial Intelligence Thermostellar Triggering Devices Bomb Select Target Committee, 2142

Death Star. lol. Whatever dude. A cobalt-thorium bomb would be much more practical.

Nameless Attacker's with Buzz Saw Yo-Yo's

    Location:
floating palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India (Bharat) and O'ahu, Hawaii

    Teams:
Nameless Indian Man and Nameless Alien Invasion Force

    Events:

Nameless-Indian-Buzz-Saw-Yo-Yo-Assassin interrupts Bond making out with a Death-for-Breakfast-lady but thanks to being alerted by a drop of water (or something) from the buzz-saw-yo-yo, Bond and the lady avoid being processed into salami slices.

Several Nameless-Alien-Buzz-Saw-Yo-Yo-Devices are fired at O'ahu from the Alien-Invasion-Force and go on to destroy an airbase and elevated highway but fail to take out the true threat to both aliens and the Earth alike (i.e. "baseball", though baseball is as much a concept as it is a physical game. 🤔 sela.).

  13. #AlternateWars

    Location:
Earth beyond Jupiter and planet the invaded planet Burada

    Teams:
San-Ti WaterDrop/Droplet vs Steel Rat Engine Sabotage Drone

    Appearance:

Droplets appear near mirror-sheen and the size of a small van

Steel Rat Drones are about the size of a toaster but covered with various devices such as molecular debonders and lasers

    Comparison:

Due to their molecular arrangement and drive systems, Droplets merely need to achieve a velocity of 30 km/s to hit things and mess them up causing massive impact damage resulting in thermal release causing secondary damage.

Rat Drones have a specific function of locating the Hyper-Drives of spaceships and destroying them with minimal damage to ship life-support and therefore potentially no loss of life.

  14. #AlternateWars

    Location:
    Alpha Centauri, Proxima Centauri

    Teams:
Centauri Imperial Telepaths vs the San-Ti Sophons

    Abilities/Powers:

Sophons relay real-time information faster than light due to (*sigh*) Quantum Entanglement yet have the ability to be really annoying making you behave (intellectually) like a person afraid of a teeny tiny wasp so you get no work done.

Telepaths are DistractinglySexy but can only convey real-time information between the Emperor's present location and the Imperial Court on the homeworld by perfectly ordinary bog-standard faster-than light psychic ability.

(both come in groups of four but travel in twos)
