  1. Now that Alpkit's future seems a little more stable (for the short term, at least): I've got a pile of reward codes to use that I'll never get through before they expire.

I can gift them to other people, perhaps in exchange for a donation to my JustGiving page of 50% of the code value.

If you're interested, get in touch. I'll provide a code of your chosen value, and trust you to make a donation once you've successfully used the code.

  10. I think 13 years of very regular use (commuting, carrying groceries, trips etc.) is pretty good for a £22.50 waterproof #rucksack. Sadly the lining was going, and tears were starting to appear. Luckily #alpkit still make the same bag, a Gourdon 20 in chili red (now 45€).

  20. Making the most of our weekend in Kielder by getting out on the big bike today. First time round the Lonesome Pine trail. Feeling a bit out of practice, and didn't have anybody with me, so taking it very steady on the way down, but great fun. Definitely worth having another go when I'm feeling more confident.

  25. LEAVE NO TRACE?

Nice article in the Alpkit advertising mag (I love this company).

I'll quote a paragraph, from Alastair Humphreys, but the whole is in the photograph.

"There's an irony in the phrase 'Leave No Trace'. Of course, we should tread lightly - packing out our rubbish, respecting wildlife, and not tramping wildflowers. But what if, instead of leaving no trace, we made more effort to leave a positive trace? A smile to a stranger. A cleaned-up fire pit. A friendly conversation with a farmer. Instead of sneaking through the land as if we don't belong what if we walked through it as caretakers?
