I went for some #AlphabeticalZurich shooting today (obviously doubling as #EagleStomps). It was nice and all, but maybe just maybe the 100m elevation (both up and down) in places that still have significant snow patches, and on a knee that saw an orthopedic specialist yesterday, was not the bestest of ideas. I expect regrets tomorrow. Bah!

Today's #EagleStomps were a bit on the complicated side: I took a train to Ringlikon, walked from Ringlikon to Uitikon Waldegg, missed the train back down by a few minutes, but caught the train back up to Uetliberg and I'm now back in Ringlikon (but on a train). With a dozen or so of tiny humans coming back from Uetliberg as well in their tiny yellow vests ☺️ (one of them just reacted joyously to the announcement that the train was going to "Hauptbahnhof" :)) )
And the popping up Uetliberg was totally worth it.(Also I have the pics I was missing for my next #AlphabeticalZurich post, so yay!) And it was probably a smart move to go there now before the first snow - as it is, I saw the first ice!

I may or may not have procrastinated a lot with this one (that's possibly the most intimidating street of all Zürich!).
It's also unclear when I'll be able to get the next post - I've had (at least some of the) picz for Bahnhofstrasse for almost 2 years, but I don't have the ones for Bahnweg yet, and when I can go get them kind of depends of the exact (or approximate) state of my Stupid Knee™ (for which I hope to have an update tomorrow - we'll see).
Anyway, it won't be much more a hiatus than what has accidentally happened in the past, except this one is making me grumpier :P

OKAY, I'm reasonably happy with the current version. I now have a "progress map" on AlphabeticalZürich, available at https://www.alphabeticalzurich.ch/map.html
The base tiles are @protomaps, with an extra dash of Leaflet (https://leafletjs.com/), an export of my progress spreadsheet as CSV, and some "let's throw some Zürich opendata at the geometry problem".
And a non-zero amount of work to integrate it as I wanted (including "how do I avoid trivially leaking my API key"), but I *think* it's reasonably clean. It would probably warrant a proper blog post, if only to document things for myself, but now I need a break (... since at least few hours if I'm being honest with myself.)
But there, I'm happy - now I need to update the spreadsheet and the real-world data below it :D

And AlphabeticalZürich itself moved from Wordpress to a statically-generated website - I mostly finished the migration. I still need to generate a RSS feed (soon™), but the rest should work well enough (let me know if you run into issues :) )

Bächtoldstrasse goes from Zürichbergstrasse to Gloriasteig. It is named after Jakob Bächtold, a German literature professor at the University of Zürich in the 19th century, known for his biography of Gottfried Keller.

Today's #AlphabeticalZurich walk was first "going uphill for 100+m of elevation on 15-20% slope" (not HUGE objectively but enough to make me breathe very loudly), a nice path in the forest, suddenly back to residential area ... ish, because after the first corner there was also a horse stable, and 100m later a large construction site. That was a lot of variety 😄

- I got myself a domain name, so the content is now available on https://alphabeticalzurich.ch/
- Yes, I know https doesn't work on www., and I think nothing I can do because I don't have access to the certificate. Sigh.
- This may have broken the Fediverse integration. Re-sigh. It might happen on [email protected], but I don't see posts there (but then, that's plausibly a federation thing)
- I do have PLANS for this thing (well, small-scale plans, but plans), and while it may look dormant / on hiatus, I've been actively working on it recently - both content and form. To be continued :P

Today's #AlphabeticalZurich walk did not start well, because some drunk asshole yelled at me for wearing a mask on the S-Bahn (fuck that guy.).
But it was better than it started, with views over the lake and clear view of the Alps, visible from where I had today's streets planned :)
(And yes, I have a plan to revive AlphabeticalZurich posting :) )

Baalweg goes from Katzenschwanzweg to Lybensteinweg. It is named after the old location name, Baal (or Bool), which designates a round, domed-shaped hill (TIL: Kuppe.)

Auf der Egg goes from Eggstrasse to a formal dead-end that still has narrow paths downhill, reaching Kilchbergstrasse. It is named after the old location name meaning “auf der Ecke” (on the corner) to describe the small hill on which the current church stands.
