  1. Radxa Cubie A5E is a tiny single-board PC with an M.2 socket and dual LAN ports for $15 and up

The Radxa Cubie A5E is a tiny but versatile single-board computer that combines an Allwinner A527 octa-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor with up to 4GB of LPDDR4-2400 memory, a microSD card reader and M.2 2230 slot for PCIe Gen 2 x1 NVMe storage, and optional support for eMMC storage.

Available for pre-order from ARACE for $15 and up, the Radxa Cubie A5E measures just 69 x 56mm (2.72″ x 2.2″), yet still manages to feature dual Ethernet ports, two USB ports, and an HDMI port.

The $15 starting price is for a model with 1GB of RAM and no storage, but you can also opt for a 2GB model for $20 or a 4GB version for $30. “Industrial” models with an Allwinner T527 processor will also be available in the future.

Both chips feature eight ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores arranged in two clusters: the A527 has four cores with top speeds of 2 GHz and four that top out at 1.42 GHz, while the T527’s fastest cores only support speeds up to 1.8 GHz. But the T527 has a few advantages for industrial applications including support for operation at a hotter and colder temperatures, a few extra I/O features, and a 2 TOPS NPU.

Both chips also have a single XuanTie E906 RISC-V CPU core that can run an independent Real Time Operating System (RTOS).

Some of the board’s other features include:

    • WiFi 6
    • Bluetooth 5.4
    • 2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports
    • 1 x HDMI 2.0a port
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-C OTG port
    • 1 x USB 3.0 Type-A port
    • 1 x 40-pin GPIO header
    • 1 x MIPI-DSI 4-lane display connector
    • 1 x MIPI-CSI 4-lane camera interface
    • 1 x eMMC socket (16GB, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB modules available)
    • 8MB SPI flash storage

The board supports 5V/4A (20W) USB Type-C power adapters, but one of the Ethernet ports also supports PoE (Power Over Ethernet).

  2. Yuzuki Avaota-A1 is a $55 single-board PC with 8 ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores and an embedded RISC-V core

The Yuzuki Avaota-A1 is a single-board PC that stands out for a few reasons. One is that it’s based on an entirely open source design – the board is now available for purchase for $55, but it was first introduced earlier this year, and you can find schematics and documentation at the Avaota website.

Another unusual feature is that the board is powered by an Allwinner A527 system-on-a-chip […]
