Hot but productive afternoon on the allotment in our corner of Yorkshire and some different birds were keeping me company. Some I couldn't identify by sight but the magical #MerlinApp helped. #allotmentlife #permaculture #BirdsOfMastodon

Lovely evening on the #allotment chatting with the guys on the next door plot and swapping goodies. They are very traditional veg growers and grumbled about our messy gardening to start with but now frequently ask questions about the #wormery #CompanionPlanting #heritage fruit trees, #insects #butterflies barrel pond and wanting to learn more about the #wildflowers we have - been 4 years of slowly winning them over. Softly softly....! #bloomscrolling #AllotmentLife #pollinators #gardening #permaculture

Growing spring onions? So easy! 🌱 Succession sow every 2-3 weeks for continuous harvests. Plant them between carrots or lettuce – their strong scent deters pests for those neighbours! Enjoy fresh zing all summer. #Gardening #GrowYourOwn #SpringOnions #AllotmentLife

After all this much needed rain decided to move some more plants into my car / greenhouse to keep the slugs off them as long as possible. Been putting the trays on the car roof for a bit of watering. Not needed to use it for a few days but must reorganise tomorrow to make space to collect #CommunityFridge food donations! #gardening #allotment #AllotmentLife #permaculture #GrowYourOwn

Got given a batch of very old fruit and veg seeds and done some germination testing (most have 50 - 70% germination rates which is pretty good). Thought I'd just plant these globe artichoke seeds and give them a try. Seeds are allegedly best sown before 2017. I soaked them for a few days in water and then put in a covered seed tray in my car to act as a mini greenhouse. 2 weeks later half have come up. It really does annoy me the hype from seed sellers that you must use new seeds - it is true for some veg but for most things it really isn't! For anyone concerned about where I'm going to plant a dozen globe artichokes which will grow into enormous plants.. will give most away through our #CommunityFridge and keep one. #permaculture #GrowYourOwn #Allotment #AllotmentLife

I spent this morning on my allotment, planting garlic and building another raised bed.
It was a much needed escape after a really hectic week at work. I love my job but I’ve been struggling to switch off this week😩
The plot is a bit barren as we head into winter so reposting some of my favourite small wins from our first two years on the plot😊
