For some reason I've been up since 4.30. By 6am I was at the allotment. I got the rest of my strawberries in, sow some more seeds and got started on clearing another plot-holder's site because they've damaged their back and aren't able to do it. I didn't see a soul, just birds and cats and was home by 11am. It's early in the season and it's small patch of ground but it already means so much to me to have it to go to

Good and bad news from the allotment yesterday. I'll get the bad out of the way. The sunflower seedling was gone, completely eaten off by slugs (I really don't like to use pellets) 😔 The good news. The tatties are looking good 🙂 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening | #kent #england

Made it to the allotment today to put the first plants in the ground. The sun was warm, the birds were chirping happily away, and the time passed peacefully. I even got to harvest some sage and the first 500g of rhubarb for tomorrow's dinner.

I noticed on Saturday that something had nibbled the sunflower seedling, so this evening I brought down a bottle-top "cloche" from home. This and a bucket of old compost. I didn't stay long due to the rain 🙂 #allotmentgardening #allotments | #kent #england

I've spent the day potting on seedlings, giving everyone a good watering and getting the next batch of seeds sown. We heard this week that the water has been turned on at the allotment so now the fun can truly begin!

Finally sat down to work out a rough plan for the raised bed. I need something that is easy, won't need daily tending, but will be productive. I work full time, have chronic pain, have several time-hungry hobbies, and am a bus ride away. Square Foot gardening isn't a new concept; the book was on my dad's bookshelf when I was a kid. The 15x8 bed should be able to provide the majority of my veg for summer-winter.

It was lovely weather this afternoon for my brief visit to the allotment. My way was blocked by a sord of mallards (yes, I had to go look it up again 🙂) who had taken occupancy of one of the footbridges.
