Alita: Battle Angel is Robert Rodriguez's Pearl Harbor
In my review of Michael Bay's Bad Boys II I brought up an interesting theory people have about the film. The amount of Bayhem! it holds in could be a direct response to the out-of-the-comfort-zone feel Bay must have had experienced making Pearl Harbor. Basically, the film was so different from what Bay usually does, he had to crank the next movie's Bayhem! up to 11, to make it feel right again. After Robert Rodriguez directed Alita: Battle Angel with an estimated budget of about $200 million, he had to come back to his comfort-zone too. And 3 months later ( that same year in 2019 ) he released Red 11. A micro-budgeted horror film made on almost exactly $7,000.

Long Fist is a northern Chinese #KungFu. In #BattleAngel, #Alita used both #WingChung and #LongFist forms (#kata). I have been very surprised to see so many Iranians doing so well in #Chinese Kung Fu these days. Long Fist is not just a powerful #martialart. It is also very beautiful and focuses of the aerodynamics of the human body.

Ça explose les yeux et une fois vu, je ne regarde que cela. C’est quoi ce monde à la Disney plein de couleurs dans tous les sens. On dirait un film Disney d’une ville d’Amérique du Sud cheap… Qu’est-ce que c’est que cette bouille 3D dégueulasse et immonde ? La ville a pris des champis ou quoi ? -

Alita, pour ceux qui ne savent pas, est l’adaptation filmique du chef d’oeuvre Gumnn; un des meilleurs manga de tous les temps. Sur papier, c’est de la SF, c’est méta, c’est génial. Ca se lit comme du petit laid. Et puis y a le film… et Là. Désolé, mais c’est mauvais, mais à un point…pffff.

Gunnm .gif I started, as motivation, back when the manga author Yukito Kishiro put the manga on hiatus, because of a dispute with his publisher. Would have been over 5 minutes long, if completed. What is #Alita, the Battle Angel's #KungFu. If my interpretation is correct, it is some #ChangKuen (long fist) plus some #WingChun. Chang Kuen is a northern style Kung Fu while Wing Chun is a southern style Kung Fu. The large arm and leg movements are from Chang Kuen. The chain punch is from Wing Chun. I don't do much chain punch cause the punches are weak and are only useful in very short range combats. I prefer to move sideways using my footwork.
