In the first dozen or so years of his film career (1930-mid1940s), Frank McHugh made approximately 90 feature films! His frequent co-stars & friends William Powell & Aline MacMahon would rival that with 60 & 40 films, respectively, during that time

Here Aline MacMahon’s playing a character slightly similar to the one that would make her well known as a character actress in “Gold Diggers of 1933”: a beautiful grifter

I’m watching both of today’s films on recently remastered DVD/BluRay from the Warner Archive collection- they look so beautiful and clear😍I highly recommend buying both whenever there’s a sale. Also, you should definitely look into reading/buying the biography “Aline MacMahon: Hollywood, the Blacklist, and the Birth of Method Acting” by John Stangeland

I will never understand how prior to being greylisted, Aline MacMahon wasn’t a major star b/c she was the total package: gorgeous, interesting, intelligent, a commanding presence on both the screen & stage

Heat Lightning is a deliciously overheated overwrought 1934 pre-code sex melodrama with just a dash of film noir. Two crooks create emotional and sexual tensions in a desert truck stop. Aline MacMahon, Ann Dvorak, Glenda Farrell star.
