Si ustedes disfrutan de las historias que mezclan la ciencia ficción con el suspenso policiaco clásico, tienen que darle una oportunidad a esta joya oculta del cine de culto. La trama arranca de una forma muy intensa: un hombre se despierta solo en la tina de un hotel completamente oscuro, no recuerda absolutamente nada de su pasado y descubre que lo está persiguiendo la policía por una serie de crímenes brutales que supuestamente él cometió. Mientras trata de escapar y unir las pocas pistas que tiene para descubrir quién es de verdad, se da cuenta de que vive en una ciudad extraña donde nunca sale el sol y que está controlada por unos seres pálidos y misteriosos conocidos como los Ocultos, quienes tienen la capacidad de detener el tiempo a la medianoche para cambiar la estructura de las calles y alterar los recuerdos de todos los habitantes a su antojo.
Visualmente la película es un espectáculo impresionante que retoma todo el estilo oscuro del cine negro de los años 40. El director prefirió construir escenarios físicos enormes y usar trucos de iluminación reales en lugar de abusar de las pantallas verdes, logrando crear una atmósfera de pesadilla atrapada en el tiempo que se siente pesada y fría. El reparto es de primer nivel, contando con grandes actuaciones de Rufus Sewell como el confundido protagonista, Jennifer Connelly y Kiefer Sutherland, quien interpreta a un doctor bastante peculiar que colabora con los villanos. Es una obra magnífica que plantea preguntas muy interesantes sobre qué es lo que nos hace humanos, si somos simplemente la suma de nuestros recuerdos o si existe algo más profundo dentro de nosotros que define nuestra verdadera identidad. De hecho, esta producción sirvió de inspiración directa para otras grandes películas muy famosas que salieron después, por lo que verla hoy en día es descubrir el origen de muchas ideas modernas de la ciencia ficción.

Esta película es una aventura muy entretenida que nos lleva directos a un antiguo Egipto de fantasía, alejado por completo de los libros de historia tradicionales. Todo empieza cuando el malvado dios del desierto Set, interpretado por Gerard Butler, decide quedarse con el trono a la mala tras quitar de en medio a su hermano Osiris. En medio de la pelea, deja ciego y manda al exilio al verdadero heredero, que es el dios Horus, interpretado por Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. La verdadera aventura arranca cuando entra en acción Bek, un joven ladrón humano muy ágil que se mete a las bóvedas reales para robar uno de los ojos mágicos de Horus, con la única idea de salvar y revivir a su novia Zaya.
La película no busca dar una clase de arqueología ni mucho menos, sino que prefiere divertirnos con muchísima acción, efectos especiales llamativos y batallas gigantescas. Aquí los dioses brillan literalmente, pues son más altos que los humanos, tienen sangre de oro brillante y se transforman en guerreros con armaduras de animales mecánicos cuando entran al combate. Es una opción perfecta para pasar una tarde tranquila de domingo con una buena botana, ya que la historia es muy fácil de seguir, avanza rápido y está llena de trampas en pirámides, monstruos gigantes y acción de principio a fin. En el elenco también vemos caras muy conocidas como Chadwick Boseman haciendo del sabio dios Thoth y Elodie Yung como Hathor, completando dos horas de puro entretenimiento ligero y emocionante.

Revu #DarkCity, film de #AlexProyas.
Vu au ciné quand il était sortit en 1998.
Pas revu depuis.
Je me rappelle qu'il m'avait beaucoup marqué à l'époque, et pas que moi puisque les #Wachowski le cite comme inspiration pour #Matrix.
27 ans après, le film a moins d'impact.
Mais il reste bon.
Parait qu'il y a un director's cut où Proyas a viré la voix off du début et rallongé des scènes, 2 points qui améliorent sans l'ombre d'un doute le film.

Since I've been laid up in bed with a bad back, I've been watching some movies I've been meaning to watch but haven't gotten around to :corgi_fetch: So tonight I watched the special edition for The Abyss and Dark City.
One thing's for sure, The Abyss special edition is waaayyyy better than the theatrical cut. The theatrical cut feels kind of aimless and pointless without the Cold War sub plot. If you haven't seen The Abyss, I promise you, the extra half hour of footage is worth sitting through. :pupper_wag:
As for Dark City, it was really really good. :ablobfoxbongo: If you like thinky science fiction or dark noir mysteries, you'll like Dark City a lot. It's a lot like the Matrix if the Matrix was more campy, thoughtful, and, I dunno, more reigned in? I love the Matrix and I loved Dark City. :blobfoxfloofhappy: The late 90s were such a gold mine for sci-fi. Much like The Abyss, I recommend the director's cut!!! The director's cut doesn't feature much more runtime, but it does cut out a studio-mandated voice over (a la Blade Runner) that basically spoils the entire plot right in the opening.
