This is the Jugendstil Centre, a nice little museum dedicated to the architecture and art form in Ålesund, Norway which was rebuilt in this style after the fire that destroyed the city in 1904 thanks to aid from Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany.

Ålesund und zum Geirangerfjord
In der Nacht von Samstag auf Sonntag läuft unser Schiff zwei Häfen an, von denen wir allerdings nichts mitbekommen, weil wir schlafen. Der erste Stopp auf unserer Route den wir bewusst erleben ist das Hafen von Torvik am frühen Sonntagmorgen um 08:30 Uhr. Der Stopp dauert allerdings nur 10 Minuten, dann legt das Schiff schon wieder ab und nimmt Kurs auf Ålesund.
Anfahrt auf ÅlesundDort kommen wir gegen 09:45 Uhr an.
MS Midnatsol im Hafen von ÅlesundÜblicherweise fahren die Schiffe der Hurtigruten von hier aus nach einem kurzen Aufenthalt in den Geirangerfjord und kehren dann gegen Abend nach Ålesund zurück, von wo aus die Reise dann weitergeht. Wegen strenger Umweltauflagen, die die Schiffe fü das Befahren des Geirangerfjords inzwischen (glücklicherweise) erfüllen müssen, darf die MS Midnatsol nicht in den Geirangerfjord fahren. Die Reederei bietet den Reisenden daher kostenlose Ausflüge per Bus und Schiff zum Geirangerfjord an.
Wir gehören zu der Gruppe, die zuerst mit dem Bus nach Geiranger fährt und von dort aus mit einem Katamaran nach Ålesund zurückgebracht wird. So besteigen wir unmittelbar nach dem Anlagen des Schiffes einen der bereitstehenden Busse und fahren los.
Ein lokaler deutschsprachiger Guide begleitet uns im Bus und gibt uns während der Fahrt Informationen zunächst zur Stadt und ihrem Umland und dann weiter zu der Landschaft, die wir auf der Fahrt durchqueren.
Die Landschaft die wir durchfahren gleicht der, die wir teilweise bereits von der Fahrt mit der Bergensbanen kennen. Es dominieren große Wasserflächen, hohe, teils schneebedeckte Berge und schroffe Felswände.
An einer Stelle überqueren wir den Storfjord mit einer Fähre.
Fähre von Linge nach Eidsdal über den StorfjordKurz darauf kommt zum ersten Mal tief unter uns der Geirangerfjord in Sicht.
Blick aus der Höhe auf ein winziges Stück des Geirangerfjords.An einem Aussichtspunkt hält der Bus an und hier haben wir die Möglichkeit, einen deutlicheren Blick auf den Fjord zu werfen. Zu meinem großen Entsetzen liegt vor der kleinen Ortschaft Geiranger, die nur 250 Einwohner hat, ein riesiges Kreuzfahrtschiff eines bekannten deutschen Reisegiganten.
Schließlich erreichen wir gegen Mittag den Ort Geiranger und begeben uns dort auf den Katamaran, der uns nach Ålesund zurückbringen wird.
Nach der Abfahrt aus Geiranger passieren wir zunächst die Wasserfälle der weltberühmten „Sieben Schwestern“, die – wie der gesamte Fjord – zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehören. Wegen anhaltender Trockenheit in den vergangenen Wochen und Monaten sind allerdings zurzeit drei der sieben Wasserfälle versiegt.
Die Sieben (aktuell nur vier) Schwestern.Von der gegenüberliegenden Felswand ergießt sich der Bräutigam in den Fjord, der die sieben Schwestern verschmähte, weshalb sich der Sage nach diese und schließlich auch er selbst in Wasserfälle verwandelten.
Der „Bräutigam“Nach etwa zweieinhalb Stunden Fahrt mit dem Katamaran kommen wir schließlich wieder in Ålesund an.
Da bis zum Abendessen respektive dem Ablegen des Schiffes noch reichlich Zeit ist, unternehmen wir noch einen Bummel durch die Stadt.
Ålesund gilt als eine der schönsten Städte Norwegens. Die Stadt wurde nach einer verheerenden Brandkatastrophe in der Nacht auf den 23. Januar 1904, bei der weite Teile der vorher aus Holz gebauten Stadt zerstört wurden, nahezu komplett im Jugendstil wieder aufgebaut.
Pünktlich um 20:00 Uhr legt das Schiff in Ålesund ab. Gegen 22:00 Uhr erreichen wir den Hafen von Molde, wo aber wieder nur ein kurzer Stopp zum Entladen von Gütern und dem Wechsel einiger Fahrgäste eingelegt wird.
Blick auf den Hafen von MoldeDanach ist es Zeit, ins Bett zu gehen, um für den morgigen Tag und die dann anstehende Besichtigung der alten Hauptstadt der Wikinger gerüstet zu sein.

Gestern Polarkreis, heute Fjord. Auf der famosen Raumabahn geht es nach Åndalsnes, dort wartet der Bus nach Ålesund. Auf der kurvigen Fahrt ist mir schon flau, im Hostel falle ich mit Migräne ins Bett. Habe ich mir zu viel zugemutet?
