40/n # Overkill #Metaljourney

Here we are, album number 20: "Scorched".

This album was my #ThrashMetal album of the year 2023.
My runner up of the "Old Farts Still Got It" album of the #AlbumOddTheYear2023 awards and my overall no 16 of my 2023 AOTY list.

Let's see how it holds up in direct comparison to their gigantic and high quality back catalogue...

@Kitty I think this was your first Overkill album, right? Do you still hear that Bag o' Bones rattling?

We are in the Music News top 28 albums of 2023 alongside some very heavy hitters. Considering we do everything ourselves, with no label support, it’s fucking amazing. Thank you to all who listen and buy Independent music.Have a great Christmas. #music #christmas2023 #albumoddtheyear2023 #album #MastoMusic #FediMusic #MastoArt #FediArt https://www.music-news.com/review/UK/15727/Album/Music-News-Top-28-Albums-of-2023

@BlackenedGreen I rather have a list of categories, without any particular ranking, much like what have been featured on #AlbumOddTheYear2023; also, not just music related.

✨ #AlbumOddTheYear2023 ✨

The category on the last day is "Best Screamer, Growler or sing-a-long" as suggested by @Kitty.

I chose #BetterLovers today. I think Greg Puciato was already great as The Dillinger Escape Plan's vocalist. The newly formed band came up with a fantastic debut.

Today, for the last #AlbumOddTheYear2023 , @Kitty proposed the "Best Screamer, Growler Or Sing-A-Long" category.

Ok, I have no doubts about this.
Insomnium all the way.

Seriously, their music emanates epicness from every atom. Everything of them could be sang-along from the deep of the lungs.

The chorus of "Lilian" is simple and effective at the same time.

"I - I drift in twilight
I stray into the dusk
I'm lost in her eyes"

@derthomas

Today is the last day of

✨ #AlbumOddTheYear2023 ✨

and the category as chosen by @Kitty is:

"Best Screamer, Growler or sing-a-long"

I'll choose the following verse, that is shouted at the listener in its entirety:

"Let kelpies wander the fjords
And lanterns float in the mires
The Queen of Winter, with hair white as snow
Brings the fog where they hide"

this is of course from...

I didn't think I had anything for today's #AlbumOddTheYear2023 which is @AqiDrago 's theme of The One You Almost Missed/ Flew Under The Radar , so I had a look at this years releases and apparently The Deathstars :Everything Destroys You was released in May . Here's An Atomic Prayer from the album and it sounds pretty much like the Deathstars I remember from 10-15yr ago. This'll do for the #MittwochMetalMix too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvSMhmhKPE4

Interesting prog metal band 🎧
@DXMacGuffin #ProgTuesday

Best ProgMetal debut album ?

For today's #AlbumOddTheYear2023 , @AqiDrago chose the category #TheOneYouAlmostMissed . Albums that you thought came out another time and, instead, are a 2023 release.

My choice is for the new August Burns Red album. I thought to be an older release.

Killer grooves and devastating breakdowns, these guys know how to do metalcore without being trivial.

August Burns Red - Death Below

✨ #AlbumOddTheYear2023 ✨

Today's category is provided by @AqiDrago and it is #TheOneYouAlmostMissed - an album that you only just realized that it was released 2023.

I checked my AOTY list, but there is actually no metal that fits the criteria, so I am going with a big one from another genre that I missed:

🏆 The Ballad of Darren by #Blur

https://album.link/y/OLAK5uy_kx0OirV41v6j1vuMqU_1dpeK-qZv1RXOg

The song "St. Charles Square" is actually one of my songs of the year. I am thinking about doing a SOTY list now 🤔

Okay I’m late but not too late for today’s #AlbumOddTheYear2023 and @Kitty wants the best debut album of the year!

For me it’s Finnish #DeathMetal band Guts and their album Decay. So good. So much low end. Very slight Demilich vibes.

https://guts3.bandcamp.com/album/decay

#AlbumOddTheYear2023 want the best debut album of 2023

My vote go to KYRIE and her album rightly named "DEBUT"

This is cheating, through. Because KYRIE do not exists. She is the character of a movie and she who incarnate her already have many albums released....

Yet, as KYRIE, it's the very first one...

https://songwhip.com/kyrie2/debut2023

@Kitty's #AlbumOddTheYear2023 is looking for the #BestDebutAlbum.
Coincidally, this I believe to be the best #Prog #AOTY, too, so double-coincidally it is a great fit for @DXMacGuffin's #ProgTuesday:

The Anchoret: It All Began With Loneliness

No growls, but saxophone, Opeth-like riffs and Gilmour-like solos galore. Excellent for silent evenings.

After a couple of days where I haven't been able to come up with an offering for #AlbumOddTheYear2023 @Kitty now wants me to choose my favourite child/pet , oh wait no that would be easier , what they actually want is my favourite debut album released this year.
The shortlist.
She Burns Red: Out of Darkness
Swarf Damage: Swarf Damage
Lokust: Infidel
Tailgunner: Guns For Hire

It's She Burns Red by a smidge.
Here's the title track

This #AlbumOddTheYear2023 entry is about the best debut album.

I've already talked about them, so I will not say the same thing as before.

Here you are, "The Ravening", Argenthorns' first oeuvre!

✨ #AlbumOddTheYear2023 ✨

Today's category is brought to you by Kitty, and it is:

Best debut album 2024

My choice might not be surprising, because I recommended this album a couple of times already.

My award goes to:

🏆 Wheels Of Twilight by #Dusk

https://duskheavyrock.bandcamp.com/album/wheels-of-twilight

Honourable mentions:

Infidel by Lokust

Swarf Damage by Swarf Damage

✨ #AlbumOddTheYear2023 ✨

Today @t4s provided a great category:

Favorite album in a foreign language that you don't speak or understand.

That's an easy one for me. My award goes to...

🏆 Kvelertak - Endling 🇳🇴

https://album.link/at/i/1677813046

#Kvelertak #Endling

@t4s On last #BandcampFriday, I bought Oϭeper by Alkonost, a single released in September. I don’t understand Russian, but they kindly provide a description of the contents of the lyrics. 😊
I like the track a lot, so I hope the single may count as an album here.

@Kitty @derthomas
#AlbumOddTheYear2023

Today's #AlbumOddTheYear2023 is an album in a language you don't understand.

So here we go: "Tangaroa", by Aotearoa (New Zealand) metal band Alien Weaponry. Much though not all of the lyrics are in te reo Māori.

https://alienweaponry.bandcamp.com/album/tangaroa

✨ #AlbumOddTheYear2023 ✨

Today it's about my favorite album in a foreign language that I don't speak or understand.

My choice is #Shining's self-titled 11th album, released in September.

My Swedish language skills are nonexistent, and I seriously can only guess what the lyrics are about based on my general knowledge about the band. Did not want to ask DeepL or Google, though.

Shining – SHINING

Today it is my pleasure to share the topic for #AlbumOddTheYear2023 initiated by @Kitty and @derthomas.

Please share your favorite album with lyrics in a language that you don't speak or understand.

The #AlbumOddTheYear2023 category today is an album where you're from . Hmm I've featured Swarf Damage a lot , the other cool Isle of Man bands I like either released stuff last year or haven't released albums this year so... I'm going back to my roots and those swines of sludge ...
PigsPigsPigsPigsPigsPigsPigs the album is Land of Sleeper and the song is Ultimate Hammer
https://pigspigspigspigspigspigspigs.bandcamp.com/track/ultimate-hammer

#AlbumOddTheYear2023

An album by a band or artist from your country.

My choice is Ravenarium - Hypertowers. Ravenarium is a technical black death metal fusion band from Slovakia.

#AlbumOddTheYear2023 . @vanessawynn asks for J-Metal (#Metal from #Japan). This is the latest album from the #DeathMetal band Parasitario, from #Osaka.

Everything Belongs to Death by
Parasitario

https://album.link/i/1650955179

#AlbumOddTheYear2023 here, by @HailsandAles !

This time it's J-Metal turn, prompted by @vanessawynn .

Here the last release from Defiled, with their no-compromise death metal, a bit less intricated than previous release and more straightforward.

Defiled - The Highest Level
https://songwhip.com/defiled/the-highest-level

For today’s #AlbumOddTheYear2023 @vanessawynn is asking for J-Metal! Any #Metal from Japan.

I’m going for #DeathMetal band Parasitario. Their album is called Everything Belongs to Death and below is a YouTube link for the track Inhumane Extermination

https://youtu.be/Gt6D-I9qT1Y?si=UnWVdXksGpJlwyLA

For #AlbumOddTheYear2023 , the theme is "New School Does Old School".

@Kitty
@derthomas

Here some new blood from Germany, which plays a pure and classic heavy metal, very 80'-ish, with lots of "heapic" riffs!

The Night Eternal - Fatale
https://songwhip.com/thenighteternal/fatale

The #AlbumOddTheYear2023 category today is New School does Old School , in other words newer bands that are going with a classic sound/style . I'll go with Tailgunner: Guns For Hire and here's the single New Horizons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1BX84JAzR8

When @yourfutureex announced today's category of best nightmare fuel for #AlbumOddTheYear2023 I immediately thought of

Blut Aus nord Disharmonium

My delay in posting is that I have not listened to it in its entirety purely because of its ability to unsettle me 😅 However, after due consideration I believe that is grounds enough to nominate it 🥳

Bandcamp link:
https://blutausnord.bandcamp.com/album/disharmonium-nahab

Here's my entry for #AlbumOddTheYear2023 , themed by @derthomas with the prompt "Best Nightmare Fuel".

In the wake of the lovecraftian horrors, already traced by @yourfutureex , I'll toot another album regarding this.

Here you are "Abyssgazer" by black/death metallers Aphotic, with his incredibly tense and gloomy atmosphere.

Do you really want to glimpse into darkness again after hearing this?

Aphotic - Abyssgazer (Full Album)
https://songwhip.com/aphotic4/abyssgazer

Great suggestion from @yourfutureex for today's theme in the #AlbumOddTheYear2023 from @Kitty and @derthomas

An album to fuel your nightmares!

I have the perfect thing: the haunting debut album, 'Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed', from Fleshvessel. The opening piano lines sound like it's being played by a mournful spirit in an abandonned house, and it only gets creepier and weirder as it goes on!

You can try the whole album here: https://i-voidhangerrecords.bandcamp.com/album/yearning-promethean-fates-sealed

I'm guest hosting today's #AlbumOddTheYear2023 by @Kitty and @derthomas, kicking it off early with the topic of

"Best Nightmare Fuel"

Has it ever happened to you that an album, its lyrics came back to haunt you in your dreams, turning them into nightmares by conjuring up images of horror?
If so, which album was it and what were those nightmares?
The Great Old Ones roaming the Earth is a great source for restless nights:
