#albertkahn #garden #paris #nature #forest #japanese #photography

  7. A young woman poses in front of her home in Asyut, #Egypt. Out-of-focus but beautiful (#autochrome #photography was difficult in any setting other than bright light), this 1914 photograph by #AugustLeon looks strikingly modern.

She wears the traditional hairstyle, with her hair formed into two horns and the lower part braided. Her crown-like hat, worn for traveling or special events, is made of velvet.

  13. @Tmmck BTW, I'm pretty sure the Archives included The Philippines (his photographers were all over). #AlbertKahn seems to have been interested in indigenous peoples and their loss in the wake of colonialism, as opposed to those in power. A quick link you may already know of: quod.lib.umich.edu/b/bhlead/um & another: nytimes.com/1927/03/20/archive

  14. @Tmmck Its a very small #Paris museum in #AlbertKahn's former home and gardens but with not a large staff & near the Bois de Bologne. BTW exhibition was in May 2005, opened by Nicolas #Sarkozy. They deffo have the plates and Irish photos which I saw in situ in 2005 during exhibition. You can contact the museum directly (they speak english). BBC subsequently made a series. I've got a some books (one fat one not with Irish pix), old invite, postcards. See photos attached for your delectation! 😍

  15. @Tmmck Might you double check the #AlbertKahn archive? In around 2007 they exhibited the Irish photographs for a year within the museum in special exhibit including Roy Esmonde's documentary on Mespoulet & Mignon. I was at the opening by the French Minister...❤️

  16. Marguerite #Mespoulet and Madeleine #Mignon, two very early color photographers, made 73 #autochrome #photographs in #Ireland in 1913 for Albert Kahn’s #ArchivesofthePlanet project. They are the first color photographs of Ireland and they include this stunning image of a 14-year-old girl in the village of Claddagh outside of #Galway.
The Irish photographs are not currently included in the digital archive of the #AlbertKahn Museum. My thanks to @anneeroper for letting me know about them.

  21. Reposting this 1918 color photo of a young Nasrani (Nazarene/Christian) woman of Bethlehem to commemorate the day. Photo by Paul Castelnau.
The biblical Mary was, of course, a Jewish woman of Nazareth.

#Architektur
