Akira Sakata ended the concert yesterday, playing some melody that I felt was very Albert Ayler-like. So, I'm starting this day with the only Albert Ayler CD I have, namely "Spirits Rejoice". A live without audience recording.

There's not much film of Albert Ayler out there. Nice surprise to come across this footage from Bordeaux 1966 today!

@milubo
Oh yes - I remember how teenage me sat in a long-gone record store and the lady running it (I was too young, but it was said all her customers were in love with her 😅 ) played that for me the first time. WHOAH! Then to find out those were merely his beginnings and starting to explore the rest of his discography.A favorite picture, by dear Guy Kopelowicz, "Spirits Rejoice" session, Judson Hall, NYC)

Really not selling me on this biography 🫤, but making me want to learn more about and listen to more of Ayler’s work 🎷

@icastico @vinylrecords Arista-Freedom LPs were so unassuming with those standardised cover designs, it's mind-blowing to think this got artists like #AnthonyBraxton, #AlbertAyler, #CecilTaylor etc out in front of mainstream, record-buying public in the middle 70s
