Former crew member, Jim Martin, paid us a visit with his grandchildren! Jim served on the USS Albacore as a 2nd class machinist mate mm2 from 1964 to 1968. Oliver and Lucy were excited to try out the bunk their grandfather once slept in!

Two of the remaining exhibits in our old gallery were finally moved today. It took us bringing in professional movers, but the battery and radio transmitter were carefully moved from the old gallery, through the gift shop, and into the new gallery where they will once again be on display when the new gallery has its grand opening this May!

Our expansion project continues! Some beautiful landscaping is shaping up. Concrete steps are being poured for what will be our loading dock, and our new entrance is set to be on the opposite side of the building, with a walkway right next to the accessible parking signs.

Did you know that the green mattress covers on board the USS Albacore served multiple purposes?
These covers were fire-resistant. A submariner's greatest fear while submerged is a fire, but these covers shielded the mattresses from igniting. The green covers also prevented the mattresses from absorbing the moisture in the air which helped to protect the bedding.
