  1. 👴💻 Ah yes, the classic tale of nerds playing with ancient tech and pretending it's #groundbreaking 🎩🖥️. Spoiler: They tweaked a scrollbar and expected applause 🤡🙌. Don't miss Alan Kay's obligatory comment cameo at the end—it's the stuff of legends, folks! 🚀📜

  2. @Jtuchel Yeah! Me too, when I have time, it is always enjoyment. It is the only things to do, ranting on "what if..." is waste of time. I personally came late on #Smalltalk, and thanks to the Free software initiative of #alankay

  3. October 2023 Update:

This month I once again got sucked into the world of #alankay and #Smalltalk.

Sooo much inspiration to get from there. It also led me to start a new project to explore and learn...

  4. I just happened to find this drawing by Alan Kay from the early seventies. His Dynabook is the blueprint of the laptop. Strange that he still saw the field of action and the field of perception separately. Otherwise it would have been an anticipation of the iPad. #AlanKay #Dynabook #Laptop #iPad #perception #action #Zeug #Spielzeug #Schreibzeug

  9. I intervjuet forsøker Kristen Nygård å forklare objektorientert programmering (#OOP).

  10. #Quotes #Creativity #AlanKay

    A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Most creativity is a transition from one context into another where things are more surprising. There's an element of surprise, and especially in science, there is often laughter that goes along with the 'Aha'. Art also has this element. Our job is to remind us that there are more contexts than the one that we're in -- the one that we think is reality. -Alan Kay, computer scientist (b. 17 May 1940)

  11. "If you're not failing 90% of the time, then you're probably not working on sufficiently challenging problems." – #AlanKay #quote /via @stefanvoigt

  12. @akkartik @ploum I guess the original purpose of computers is lost, the original kind of user along with it. Is that something to lament? What was appreciable about that kind?

The new kind of user is not a programmer, irrespective of how much #AlanKay would want them to be. This user is happy consuming content unmindful of the system's problems, like consuming gasoline or electricity.

  13. "But because people don’t understand what computing is about, they think they have it in the iPhone, and that illusion is as bad as the illusion that Guitar Hero is the same as a real guitar. That’s the simple long and the short of it." #AlanKay fastcompany.com/40435064/what-

  14. Good question @Shamar I don't see how either. I can imagine a network of communicating objects, and you can do a lot with that. But perhaps we're only seeing interfaces, not mechanism?
